Cameron Lee talked a lot about freedom in his interviews and that has to include the freedom to kill.

LOL, they actually did an episode about psychopathic gamers. Two guys kidnapped people a bunch of people and attached shock colors to them to try to force them to be "real life" gamer avatars for them in a real life first person shooter in a maze they designed.

It was such a hilariously stupid plan. I remember thinking "worst. controls. EVER."

Imagine how much less fun Mass Effect would have been if the player had no direct control over Shepard and could only get him or her to do anything by shouting threats at Shepard's family.

If you want to see a slightly more practical (though futuristic) method of this, try watching the movie The Gamer.
