The templars SUCKS! S.U.C.K.S! sucks!
Templars are a bunch of peasants who struggle to find real jobs, and so they decided to become who they are. A giant pain in the asses for the mages.
Look at Carver for a prime example. He struggled to go anywhere by himself, and kept on reminding his brother that hes always stuck in his shadow... if you refuse to take him with you in the deep roads he joins the templars... just like the rest of them who struggle to maintain social status.
Like I said the Templars sucks.

There you go begrudging peasants who must work for a living and decide to take a job that is widely respected across Thedas. Not all of us get free food and board.

I've never seen a mage do anything useful, all they do is complain and get possessed.

How many templars do you know who do provide this service? Oh right they force mages to undergo the Harrowing and R.O.T on the mages.

Back on topic with peasents though: What kinds of hats do peasents wear?

Also, in DA:O, they served as a replacement in Lothering for town guards driving off bandits and the like.MisterJB wrote...
So, the Templars not only protect normal people from dangerous magic but they also provide a source of employment.

Right, when the lord ran away with his guards, who remained behind to help evacuate the population? The Templars.HiroVoid wrote...

Straw hats? Maybe, if they're lucky, something a tailor in Denerim, Val Royeaux or whatever the nearest city is.

The templars did a bad job because you were approched by bandits when you first enter Lothering.

Ah normal peopleGotta love that word "Normal". The only employment they provide is with the dwarves to help satisfy their addiction to Lyrium.
Well, peasants do join the Templars. In fact, it seems joining the Chantry or the Templars affords social mobility for peasants they would have a hard time finding elsewhere. Except for the Imperial Chantry. Non-Mage peasants are kept at the lowest rank in the Chantry hiearchy there.

Because "mundane" or "non-mage" is so much better.Lord Raijin wrote...

Why should the rest of the world be defined by mages and in comparison to mages?
That's right, the Templars also help prevent the extinction of not just dwarven culture, but also their entire race by buying their products.the dwarves to help satisfy their addiction to Lyrium.

Well, sure. Templars don't have the numbers in small towns for it. That's why it was an unsual case for them, but they still did their best to step up to the role. If you inform the leader about it, he'll send templars out to drive them away.Lord Raijin wrote...

During the Middle Ages the peasantry wore all sorts of colors (except for the really expensive stuff like purple and blue), because several dyes weren't that expensive and would you want to wear brown all your life?

That's just the preception people have of the Middle Ages. Just check the Monty Python picture in the OP. Every peasant is dressed in brown as well.drake heath wrote...
Also, as a side note, I don't like how the commoners mostly wore brown and stuff.

That's because brown is realistic. Just add in some more bloom here and there.MisterJB wrote...

I know, I always hated the warped idea people had of the "Dark Ages".MisterJB wrote...

It's "Enlightenment" age propaganda that said all the Middle Ages were terrible because they were trying to garner political support against Catholics.
People bathed more in the Middle Ages than in the Early Modern Age.
