In Control, an new A.I. is born, it carries Shepard's memories, but it is NOT Shepard... The A.I. itself admits the real person is dead, and that its little different than a clone. So, you can't even "head-canon" post control...

That's not definite. Shepard doesn't admit that they are a copy at all. I think you're letting your imagination wander, all that's necessary is to take Shepard's speech at face value and it's clear that's still Shepard, in of itself the new "Starchild" like 2001's ending. It's still Shepard with a different psychetype.
That's still better than altering the psychetype of all sentient beings and dying in the process. By your own logic, Synthesis does to all life in the galaxy what Control only does to Shepard. Forcing Shepard into a sacrifice that Shepard can't express their reasoning for before or after the act? That's just inconsistent writing on the player's part.

Going off my first playthrough, I chose Control over Synthesis for a couple of reasons. I was way too exhausted like Shepard to remember the warnings throughout the game (yknow, like that TIM convo 5 minutes before) and the idea ruling the reapers was really tempting. It was an idea I've been fighting the whole game, but something about the Catalyst saying its possible really resonated with me.

There's also the fact that Synthesis came out of nowhere and was very suspicious. The leader of the reapers, who are made of combined organics and synthetics is offering me the chance to combine organics and synthetics, when they have a great track record of doing that themselves to willing and mostly unwilling organics and synthetics?! I've been fighting cyborg zombie slaves the whole game! Why would I fall for this crap?
