I think you're letting your imagination wander, all that's necessary is to take Shepard's speech at face value and it's clear that's still Shepard, in of itself the new "Starchild" like 2001's ending. That's still better than altering the psychetype of all sentient beings and dying in the process. By your own logic, Synthesis does to all life in the galaxy what Control only does to Shepard. Forcing Shepard into a sacrifice that Shepard can't express their reasoning for before or after the act? That's just inconsistent writing on the player's part.
