Considering that you have never seen either countries properly, how would you know what most of it is like?ladyofpayne wrote...
Orlais is just typical Medieval country but Tevinter is land of slavery and crazy magisters.
It's not like this is the only person I've said this to.Medhia Nox wrote...
@Br3ad: Now now, you're going to critique him/her for using headcanon when these boards are filthy with it?
A massive portion of the arguments made on these forums are headcanon.

I'm sure that a mage rapist would have been pushed to it by Templar oppression though.

Slavery and Blood Sacrifice are policy in Tevinter.
Blood magic is definitely illegal, it's just that no one pays attention to that rule. Lambert even said that the current Black Divine (who was also his good friend) turned to blood magic to keep his position.Medhia Nox wrote...
@eluvianix: You, sir (or madam?), certainly do not come to mind when I say things like "Bolded 1"
And, you have educated me on Bolded 2. I truly was not aware that Blood magic (and by extension I suppose sacrifices) are officially illegal in Tevinter. That's a very interesting, and welcome, development for the mage kratocracy.
Slavery is policy as far as I'm aware.

Well, oranges are obviously inferior to apples. But then again orange juice is gosh darn better than apple juice. Though I have never heard of orange pie, though even if I did, I would still prefer apple pie.

So pretty much every nation of ancient times that created the foundations of the modern world was evil? Since you know they all permitted slavery, hell Rome ran on slave labor. Not to mention that medieval peasants were slaves in all but name.mx_keep13 wrote...
Its been pretty well established that tevinter is a horrible place due to the character interactions , also anyplace that has slavery is a **** hole.It could have great health care but slavery makes any country evil
Slavery is only thought of as a horrible thing in our day and age, because of our vaunted idea of "implied freedom", and the relative constant peace we enjoy. But we do love ourselves some Macintosh products which are basically ALL built on slave labor, yet you don't see many ever rise up in anger and overthrow the oppression, since that would be inconvenient.manbobjoe wrote...

Tevinter has slavery(and this slavers running around Thedas), blood magic, blood sacrifice, an ancient history of invading foreign soil, and to top it off out of control mages running the show.
On the other hand Orlais has masked slavery(both in the form of 'servants' and feudal peasants), an unhealthy amount of rape directed at the general populace, a modern history of invading foreign soil, a corrupt chantry in their pocket(and thus the whole oppression of mages thing on their shoulders), and to top it off corrupt and out of control nobles running the show.
I'd say they're both pretty awful, but the biggest douche award goes to Orlais since you know they're still super powerful and throwing their weight around. That's just my .02 cents.
I'm a miser, 1/50th of a penny is all I'm willing to give.XX-Pyro wrote...
.02 cents? Not really pulling your weight are you?
