I doubt it will be a sequel, just because of the ME3 endings. If it's a sequel they'll have to make one of those endings cannon for it to work properly. Because If they don't they're looking at a lot of work ahead of them. Synthesis, and control really effected the ME universe. So I see prequel all the way, or they may make destroy cannon. I don't know.

Personally I vote for a total reboot.

I love myself a destroy cannon.

I'd love a destory canon also, only if Shep was involved. But sadly this won't be the case. So no ME4 for me. I'll be back if Shep comes back. But on the bright side, DA hasn't failed me yet ^_^

I should've known better than to make spelling jokes.

Making a prequel doesn't feel like moving forward to me at all, but given that everybody says a sequel is neve going to happen, it feels like all we have to look forward to are prequels and spinoffs. I just hope to play as my own character like Shepard was, though being more vastly different in terms of profession and goals. Nothing has been confirmed but hearing hypothetical possibilities as playing as Garrus, Aria or the Illusive Man doesn't sound very appealing as these are not my characters.

Yes I hope they keep something from the current games, but Shepard won't be doing any mind-blowing. A few references probably. But I wrote a whole other reply in another thread that explains pretty much everything I'm hoping they at least bring to the new game. For those who are interested are free to read it, but all I'm going to say is that I hope they create the possibility of playing as an alien. Something entirely different since the protagonist has always been a human

A sequel would be quite easy to do.

While I agree that with the 3 endings it, at a glance, makes the whole thing to be pretty ridiculous, they can EASILY wipe the slate clean by:

Putting it in the relatively distant future.
Getting rid of Shepard and the Reapers, like they go to dark space if control or synthesis is taken
the 'synthesis eye' fades over time and/or generations.
if destroy was picked then shepard dies of old age after having cool adventures that you can read about in the codex.

It's absurdly simple to move on with the story, actually.

They can also combine all three as I'd been saying since last year.

Reapers are controlled by Shepard AI, then organic dna gets synthesized and then reapers are destroyed. Something along those lines (simplified version of my idea).

Regardless though I think synth has potential. Its effects could for example, give species super strength, doubled lifespans, improved senses, and abilities like Cable (X-Men) or Iron Man where all synth'd being could directly interface with tech.

Control can have someone misusing the reapers after seizing it for themselves (least potential imo).

(High EMS) Destroy on the other hand leaves all things open. You get all races, everyone keeps their bodies intact, reapers and their tech get erased. Geth can be rebuilt (though they're not going to be the same personalities).

Honestly, I'd prefer that this takes place at least 1000 years into the future and that they don't end the series with a damn choice. One unified ending leaves efficient sequel room, you just give us the choices to decide how we go along.

Having seen the way KotOR 2 combined LS and DS endings, I agree that Bio can do this. "Can" doesn't mean "should," though.

You think that was done badly, check out Deus Ex: Invisible War

Combining the endings is kinda stupid. Just canonize either Destroy or Control because they keep most of the fun parts of the series around and open up new story ideas within Bioware's writers abilities

I'd  say that Destroy will be canon because with the Reapers dead, all life will be free to grow, develop, choose their own destiny and develop new technologies beyond Mass Effect tech without being manipulated by Reapers.

All the Reapers want is to control organic life like lab rats, allowing them to use Mass Effect technology to develop along a path that the Reapers desire, and when the time comes, they attack organic and synthetic life to urge them to do whatever it takes to fight for their survival, like building the Crucible even though they have no idea who designed the thing, and convince the person that is about to use the Crucible to choose Synthesis (so the Leviathans can use their mind control ability to enslave all life that is now connected to them by the new DNA) or at least choose Control so the Reapers would live to have another shot at reaching Synthesis, breaking free from Shepard's control and continuing to harvest organic life until someone in a future cycle chooses Synthesis.
