Is there another way to go deeper into the Silverite Mine after you have gone through there before?  I can get into the mine, go down the steps but there is no visible entrance beyond that.  I thought that perhaps I needed Velanna in my group, so I finally found her and added her.  Still no way down.

The party is captured just after going down the stairs, and thereby allowing access to other areas. Entering the mines before finding Velanna might be causing the bug in your case; reverting to an earlier save is an option.
