Visual part is very important. It makes the characters and the world alive.

If it has RPG element(s), then yes.

That's one for the archives.

Best use the hidden archives. Some things should be kept away from the public eye, for their own protection.

You can make the paddles go up or down in Pong.

Therefore, Pong, is a role-playing game.

So does that mean if a game has a driving section, it's a racing game?

Or if there's a game where you shoot stuff, it's a first person shooter?

Or if there's a game where you need jump, it's a platform game?

If not then why is it that those games all have 1 element in them and aren't considered part of those genres, but a game with only 1 rpg element is an rpg game?

You can buy a Nug in DA:O. That makes it a farming-sim.

Sevial, i've heard your explanation. You don't want a story driven game.

Oh no, don't get it twisted, Seival wants a story-driven game. What he doesn't want is an RPG.

Go and play Ryse, or God of War, Seival. They seem to be exactly what you're looking for. Dragon Age but without all the supposedly unnecessary side stuff.

You can pilot a sub in Beyond 2 Souls, that makes it a Submarine Simulator.

You can shoot people in Beyond 2 Souls, that makes it a Shooter.

You can spy on Adult Jodie in the shower in Beyond 2 Souls, that makes it a Peeping Tom Simulator.

I can decide where to move the blocks in tetris, does that make it an RPG as well?

You can buy a nug plushie in real life.

Oh, and since Fallout New Vegas has lots of pots, pans, ovens, refrigerators, and eating utensils in it, it must be a cooking sim.

No. They don't want a story driven game. They want a story driven movie, with as little elements of a game as possible so that there is only the story being told to a mostly passive audience, who are really there to continuously hit the play button and watch it unfold beautifully on the screen.

I don't think anyone's going to dispute that one, to be honest.

And if a game has at least one RPG element - it is an RPG game.

That is an absurd definition that renders the label effectively meaningless.

Any game developer would disagree with you.

Let's look at Remember Me game, for example. It has RPG element. Very tiny, but still. I can't call the game just a heavily story-driven action. I call it heavily story-driven action-RPG game.

I don't want such strong action bias for DA:I, but DA:I would be much better heavily story-driven RPG game without half of planned RPG features and time consumers.

Batman drives the Batwing in some scenes in Arkham Origins. I guess that game is a simulator game now. Batman: Arkham Origins - the new aircraft simulator.

Remember Me is kinda underrated, but the label of "RPG" shouldn't come anywhere near it.

Do you get to create your own character in it? No? Not an rpg then. Just because you play as someone, it is not the same as roleplaying.

Should I remind you all those "mature scenes" from Dragon Age and Mass Effect series?

I didn't want to be THAT guy (I'm lying, you beat me to it) but yes, story-driven movie is more apt.

Lets say you bake a chocolate cake. Someone puts a tiny bit of shrimp in it. This doesn`t change the entire cake into a seafood dish. Its still 99.9 chocolate cake, that tiny shrimp piece doesn`t change the entire product to its "favor". Same with rpgs. Just because you can buy something in the game, doesn`t make the game an rpg, when everything else in it is just action with zero rpg elements. The biggest part is what defines the game.

So, Witcher and Witcher 2 (and upcoming Witcher 3 by the way) are not RPGs just because they do not have a character generator?... I wonder how soon will some of BioWare pop-up here and explain that RPG doesn't have to have all possible RPG features to be called RPG.

Some of my favorite games are racing games. KOTOR and KOTOR 2 spring to mind.
