Oh you mean the lovely "don't like my ending? Here is a glorified game over screen because we know better"? Ending? The obviously non canon, does not trigger an achievement, completely misunderstood what people asked for in a refuse ending, listened only to what they wanted to hear refuse ending?

Oh yeah, totally worth it....not

When Jack went down on Garrus's loyalty mission and yelled, "Shepard! If I die, I'm haunting your ass!" I laughed sooooooo hard that I had to pause the game (this was when the two Ymir mechs come out).

Ragdolling enemies in ME1 and ME2. In ME1 with Singularity, Lift, and Throw. In ME2 with Biotic Charge, Pull, Throw, Concussive Shot, Shockwave, and Singularity. I loved Charging a mook, having Garrus follow up immediately with Concussive Shot, then have Thane or Samara immediately follow up with Throw for a one-two-three combo to change the guy's path as s/he is flying throw the air.

Garrus' obliviousness when it comes to women ("I didn't think you'd feel like sparring Commander"). Also, his difficulty charming women (he stumbles over his words a lot). I mean, really Garrus? The guy who faced down hundreds of mercs on his own for weeks can't talk to women? He needs some coaching by Shep, Wrex, Zaeed, Jacob, and Vega.

Let's face it. The people who expected a refuse ending that didn't logically conclude in everyone's death were never going to be satisfied until BioWare totally rewrote the ending from top to bottom, ditched the catalyst, its premise, and whatever other quibbles plagued them like scale itch.

Not the point Kaiser.

It is also VERY telling that the refuse ending could be triggered by shooting the catalyst (something a lot if people did out of frustration and resentment)

Honestly I thought that was pretty amusing. I have a feeling it amused someone in the dev team as well. It's all the more satisfying if you can convince a newcomer to the game that doing so unlocks an awesome surprise easter egg of an ending, which I have.

I think people take the refuse ending, and its triggers too seriously. After all, there was no way anything good could come of refuse (except maybe the nice, but sadly contradictory speech about dying free). Maybe it would've been better if Shepard toted a small bottle of blue face paint so he could bumrush the hologram while spouting curses in his/her best Scottish accent.

Gotta wonder how many people doomed the galaxy by accident their first time through the EC.

I admit, I was the original Refuse advocate (this was back when galactic starvation and permanent isolation was a reasonable conclusion to reach). I'm satisfied with high-EMS Destroy, but I agree starbrat and his logic still sucks.

I suspect a good number did, and I don't think it was all out of resentment for anything. You have a gun with no ammo limit, and there's nothing around but reapers in space and a glowing space boy. It's like a moth to a light bulb. They couldn't resist.

Well, the refuse ending is basically what the Marauder Shields comic is trying to accomplish without actual refusal, and in doing so they have gone for 54 issues without actually getting to an ending.
So um, yeah, suddenly I want this killswitch that could just remove all the Reapers instantly, friendly fire be damned. Great work "Hope is Alive."
Just goes to show you can always have an even worse alternative...

Just as amusing, customer oriented and in good taste as someone in the weight loss industry cracking a fat joke for the lulz

Poking fun at your customer about a sensitive issue is NEVER a good idea even if you think it is good natured....which this was not

It's seriously too hard to lose the game without refuse, anyway. Lowest EMS destroy means doing basically nothing in the game (not just not picking up the sidequests or not doing multiplayer) but Synthesis requires that high-EMS that you'd only get from intelligent decisions or multiplayer... and it's not really a defeat, more like a very, very bad decision.
So if I want Shepard to not succeed out of poetic justice and or resentment toward the character, Refusal is the best option.

The comparison still doesn't work. A company poking fun at the physical appearance of its customer base is far more severe in nature than adding a trigger that is likely influenced by casual and typically inconsequential gestures players make in a game. In the end, it doesn't matter. Refuse's only logical conclusion is the death of everything. People who expected anything different were kidding themselves.

I couldn't even roleplay/rationalize Refuse from a character perspective. I'd only do it out of a player perspective. Resentment directed towards Bioware specifically. Nothing in game. And I think that's how they see it too.

Refuse is pretty much the last gasp of a particularly daft Shepard.

"And if I die, I'll die knowing that I did everything I could to stop you. And I'll die free."

Did everything, except give the Crucible a shot. Good job, Shep.

Never implied otherwise Kaiser, but that is not what people wanted out if a refuse ending....or out if the ending in general, it only goes to add to the clumsy handling of it all and the awkward reaction Bioware had at thus unprecedented outpour of extremely negative feedback.

Honestly I wish this situation had been dealt with just like MS dealt with Orth

people who pick refuse are mad, why not just pick destroy, granted the Geth will be wiped out, but at least everyone else is alive.

Or do what I do, once Shepard reaches the Citadel, turn off the console and walkaway. Headcanon the rest.

OK, what exactly did people really want the refuse ending to be like?

rainbows and unicorns

but srsly they wanted an ending were you actually fought and beat the reapers and the amount of war assets would come into play in a big way. Also I think they wanted a fight with Sovereign.

I'd say it'd be better for players to hope to meet Casey or Mac at a conference or something, and giving them your 2c (try to be civil, of course). That's the best way to voice a "refuse". In game though, you might as well just get the Crucible sequence over with.

I don't remember the italed happening. The pre-EC threads I saw all went the same way. Someone would propose a Refuse victory, someone else would say that while of course Refuse was a good RP option, winning that way was idiotic. And then we'd fight for ten or twelve pages. Refuse was popular, Refuse victory was not.

Of course, if someone in the thread hadn't already attacked the Refuse victory for being idiotic I would have done that myself, so naturally I remember that the idea of Refuse victory was always attacked.

What Dino said.

Sure people might have a attacked the idea but for each attacker there was a defender.

Of course, we could not have that and crush the ART -headdesk-

And no I am.bot against a complete fail option as long as there is a complete victory one
