I was a mage and romanced anders once, then becane horrified at him as he became anakin to my padme, and in a heartbroken rage at him and myself for ever loving that monster, had to side with the templars. 

Then I stabbed him. Twas great besties of fun. Very powerful feeling.

Templars are necessary. The circle is necessary. The circle needs reform, and the Templars (at least in Kirkwall) need to be policed way better.

I can agree with that. I didn't agree with everything that Fenris said, but still had a great romance with him as a mage.

Anders was admittably hotter than Fenris, but I loved seeing the development of Fenris's character as he comes to love and support a mage.

It might not be a choice. It may have been for a templar splinter group in the beginning, but if the big bad deems a red templar army invaluable to its cause, restoring the ranks may include capturing and converting regular templars into pawns.

Or is that just me?
