Huh. Sounds like tons of games I've played actually had no "gameplay".

The point of a game is to reach an end goal

gameplay is making ambigious desicions. How you get to this goal is up to you

When I say ambigious I don't mean selecting a dialogue tree in mass effect that leads to the exact same outcome

gameplay is playing a round of counter strike and every step and every shot fired is a desicion you make on your own. It's ambigious as in there is no one holding your hand and limiting you or telling you what to do. It's completely up to you how you want to win this round

Yes most games today aren't really games but are interactive movies and QTE button masher simulators that give casuals instant gratification and the illusion of choice, when in fact there is no choice

Wait, aren't you the idiot smart man about fun and gameplay?

Oh lord, help us.

Why argue with Lazengan, he's full of ****. Its always the same with him, he comes up with a bunch of ridiculous nonsense that no one understands and dismisses everyone else's opinions as invalid because they do not agree with him. I bet you'd have more luck convincing a toaster than trying to make sense of what he says.

Game design my ass.

Sorry, I don't believe in the "its just your opinion" logical fallacy

see my signature and try again

I suppose it's too much to ask people to think critically of the "games" they are playing. Perhaps if you just sat down and thought about how similar most games today are not unlike films, pinata whacking toys, or just otherwise artistic integrity garbage

According to the gameplay messiah Lasagna this is the case. You're not seeing any kind of gameplay when you play Skyrim because reasons.

Well, if you look up "gameplay" on dictionary.com or the Macmillan dictionary, the definitions are a little ambiguous.

the plot of a computer or video game or the way that it is played

the story and structure of a computer game, and the way that it is played

So if you take the story/structure/plot, add or substitute the actual playing of it, carry the one, you end up with...well, the whole user experience, up to and including their actions, would seem to be the gameplay, no?

That is rather vague. It brings up the point of "how a game is played" though, which is most likely a vague phrasing of direct player action, ie swinging your sword in Skyrim. Direct action, what separates video games from interactive movies.

tl;dr

Skyrim has gameplay.

I suppose you think selecting a dialogue in mass effect is such amazing riveting gameplay

Or perhaps you like it when a developper makes gratifying content to jerk you off

I suggest writing a self insert fanfic, Much more fun

yes indeed

being given 4 youtube videos and clicking next each time the video is done is clearly a game

And you're clearly being deluded. I can count the number of games like this on one hand.

It does have gameplay

It does have desicions to make such as using what spell and positioning.

But overall it's just so poorly executed that most often combat becomes a repetitive boring whack simulator because there is no reason to use any other weapon or move differently.

As soon as you give me an example of what you think is real gameplay. We already know that you'll dismiss what I'll say. So let's just skip to your nonsense, shall we?

yes

as I said, counter Strike, Tetris are good examples of gameplay

Many desicions to be made, very ambigious, and multiple ways to reach the goal

not just 3 determined paths that you go down to reach the end goal, but potentially infinite amounts of paths.

Interactive movies have those, so you're definition of gameplay is failing. In fact, jsut about every game has that. And contrary to your belief, none of those games have infinite ways to solve anything.

The sad Truth is that Skyrim is a terrible, repetitive, buggy game, with no actual gameplay. You spam the same spells and attacks over and over again on cube hitboxes until it dies, spamming potions because there is no cooldown and no choices to be made.

People like Skyrim because you download a new waifu mod every week and play dress up with her along with other mary sue self insert gratification fanfics that you imagine in your head. Skyrim is a do what you want sandbox simulator.

Hell I still play it with over 300 mods downloaded. It's mindless degenerate fun, but its still fun.

Unless you're an idiot who bought it on console

Obsidian at least learned from Bethesda's mistakes and Fallout New Vegas is a vastly superior game with true balance and decision making.

You didn't say what?

Interactive movies have 3-5 predetermined paths that you go down through and is literally the exact same thing each playthrough. You are given desicions to make on a dialogue tree. In counter strike every move every shot you make is a desicion. You will never ever ever experience the exact same thing in every counter strike match. There are infinite posibilities

Also you said you would give me examples of good games after I gave you examples. I'm still waiting

More typical Bioware forum logic

If someone says something that a circlejerk community doesnt like, he's a troll

I only really respond with condesendence to personal attacks
