The ship would also feel less empty if there were more of the non-combat group that we could interact with. I like that we have Chakwas, Traynor, Adams, Gabby and Ken, though. Salute guy is the strong silent type I guess.

 Kelly Chambers said the ME2 crew was recalled by Cerberus. Who knows what happened to the poor souls who reported back...
In any case, the Normandy SR-2 (Stealth Recon-2) is analogous to a submarine in space, the way you guys describe it is like you wanted the ship to become "The Love Boat" but with Cdr. Shepard instead of Captain Stubing

Having a combined crew would increase Shepard's chances of successfully going rogue independent if (s)he chose to do so...

Not sure why anyone would really prefer Balak. He's essentially the batarian equivalent of Osama Bin Laden. At least Bray was rooting for Shepard. If not for the hostages or my desire to get the batarians to join the war effort, I would've shot him without regret.

I don't think anybody likes Balak.

Most advocates for a Batarian Squadmate tell me they prefer Balak because they think of him as fighter/soldier while Bray is just a guard. Still, I think since Aria is on the verge of "firing" him anyway, I would take Bray either way.

I'd have much preferred to be able to pick from the whole pool meself. The ideal (for me) would have been much like the Citadel DLC's second to last mission. Imagine playing through the entire game with your whole squad. For example, on Sur'Kesh, being able to walk around and talk to ALL your squaddies before you head down the elevator. Or seeing Miranda and Jacob firing shots at Cerberus troopers in one area or Samara and Liara (someone else if she's in your squad) behind cover in another area.

I would have liked to see some of the ME2 squadmates return, but not necessarily the nameless Cerberus crew members. They wouldn't have made a whole lot of sense really, when the Alliance crew is just as (if not more) qualified.

I would have limited returning 'Cerberus' characters to Gabbie and Ken, Mess Sgt. Gardner, Miranda Lawson, and Jacob Taylor.

Considering the SR-2 was a Cerberus ship, I think the Cerberus crew is better qualified.

Besides, would you rather have a crew with more loyalty to the Alliance, or with more loyalty to you personally?

But they are NO LONGER CERBERUS! Ever since you saved their precious bodily fluids from getting sapped by the Collectors, they were more loyal to Shepard himself than to any organization...

Those two in the med-bay, both Kelly and Samantha competing up in the CIC, Mess Sgt. Gardner and sometimes James in the kitchen... lots of potential conflicts for Shepard to settle!

They still joined Cerberus fully and pledged loyalty to it. Their reasons for doing so are irrelevant (and really dumb, in Joker's case, and especially Gardner's), they should stay locked up. I was incredibly disappointed I never had an option to tell Cerberus to screw themselves in the 2nd game, or to throw Cerberus aligned people in jail, like Miranda and Jacob. But apparently, desperate times call for desperate measures, and they get pardons. 

Did laugh at the bodily fluids thing, though.

They should have tried to have all the squad mates available from both games, I understand why the couldn't but they should have tried too. Plus some of the placements of the crew annoyed me, why was Ashley stuck where she was stuck.

From the where she tended to hang out in ME1, I would expect to find her hanging out with James in the armory.

P.S. I thought you hated her...
