This month's challenge is "Dark Sun":

Weapons & armor specific to Dark Sun, like the chitin armor. Creatures specific to Athas, like Half-giants, Athas elves, Muls, new heads in the style of Dark-Sun camping art; The dragon of Tyr which looks quite different of any other dragon in D&D, Dark-sun Dragon kings. Dark-sun specific classes, like Templars, wild psionic, preservers and profaners. Tilesets for the Athas backgrounds, like rock and salt desert, the dust sea, etc...

This theme was suggested by Shemsu-Heru.

Guidelines:
  • It must be fully working in game.
  • Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine. Just remember that NWN textures must have dimensions in powers of 2 (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.).
  • Teamwork is welcome.
  • Beginners most welcome. Don't be afraid, just try, you'll be surprised!
  • "Custom Content" includes many sorts of things: models, scripts, prefabs (areas, items, creatures, conversations, quests, etc.), sounds, portraits, or anything else new for the game.
  • All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to NWNCCCMakers@gmail.com (or a non-Vault link provided) by January 1st, 2014. Sooner than that is perfectly fine too. ;-)

Somethings you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster:
  • 2da lines needed.
  • Screenshot from in game for use on the vault page (this also gives me hints on how to display the new goodie). Formats: .bmp, .jpg, .png, or .tga
  • Portraits (if needed) of your new goodie. Placeables and monsters should include a portrait.
  • Inventory icons (if needed) of your new goodie.
  • Any credits you would like listed.
  • If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).
  • Also if you would like an invite to the CC Makers group, send Rolo Kipp a friend invite. The group is nothing spectacular, mostly just documentation on 2da lines.
  • If you are doing tileset content, *please* let me know ahead of time so I can get you the set and itp files to work with. I’m horrible at merging those so this bit you will need to provide.

Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity, and surprise!

This thread is for all sorts of discussion about this month's theme: ideas for things to make, questions/concerns, announcement of what you intend to make, screenshots of work in progress and/or finished projects.

If you want to discuss the Monthly Custom Content Challenge idea as a whole or wish to submit ideas/themes for future monthly Challenges, please post in its thread here.
When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone, not just people interested in this Challenge. We'll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

And finally, you can:

Submit theme suggestions.
Vote for January's theme.
Email content to: NWNCCCMakers@gmail.com

My Thanks to anybody who have voted Dark Sun. In My opinion, DS is one of the most interesting campaigns in D&D. Unfortunately There is almost nothing About it in the vault; I hope that this challenge could change that.

Athasian dwarf head based on the oficial DS Art.

The Carrikal is some kind of Athasian battle axe, made from the jaw of a predator (Parts are interchangeables BTW).

I seem to recall in a series of Dark Sun novels an obsession with using obsidian, so I plan on making some obsidian stuff. A few sphere placeables, an obsidian-headed spear, an obsidian-bladed dagger, and a club with a chunk of obsidian at the top should be enough from me.

How about an overly large club (comparable to the default tree limb size model) made entirely out of obsidian?

I have some obsidian weapons, Too. I' Hope to add the pictures soon.

What about of a levitating obsidian sphere; For the obsidian orbs of the "Mind Lords". Those are a group powerful psionics who have moved their minds into obsidian orbs, ages ago.

The Shabby Hyena Lunatic will be messing around with some weird creatures... as usual...

Definitely going to try making a Tembo or two and if all goes well and time allows, hopefully the Jhakar, Rasclinn and Zhackal too on the grounds that they're all - very vaguely and tenuously - a bit dog-like. Sort of. Slightly. Depending which bit of artwork you look at since most of these creatures seem to change inordinately from one image to the next...

Here are two of the iconic weapons of the Thri-kreen; The Chatkcha and the Gythka.

The Chatkcha is a throwing weapon; Something between a throwing-star and a boomerang.

Posted Image

The Gythka is a two-bladed polearm weapon. (Parts are interchangeables)

Posted Image

I have made two version of both of them. In one version the Gythkas are just new models of two-bladed swords; And the Chatkchas are new models of throwing-axes.

But in the other version they are true new kind of weapons, with their proper 2DA file and TLK file. I have made both of them acording to the description of this weapons, in the official 3E manual "Expanded psionic's handbook". As a new weapon the Chatkcha replaces the shuriken, also as a monk's weapon.

Pictures can be copy/pasted to a BSN post from anywhere on the internet.

Or at least, from such sites as I've tried thus far anyway.

Obsidian Weapons by Shemsu-Heru

My obsidian weapons, are texture variations of the groups of weapons that I have made, like the obsidian versions of my Chatkacha and Gythka.

Now Just an idea. What about of a sky-box with the two Athasian moons, and or the crimson sun.

The Trikal is an Athasian polearm weapon with three blades on the top. According with "Dragon magazine" this weapon equals to a halbert. (interchangeable parts).

The Tembo is more or less finished, just needs a few tweaks and the corner of a texture needs hitting with a brick. As the information about Tembos (2E, I think) stated that they live in open desert and also mountainous areas, I have done two different sub-species. Well, two texture versions anyway. Both types come in two sizes to give some variation to their hunting packs...
(Images will be up when I've finished fine-tuning and also when I find somewhere to PUT said images with my handy BSN album squashed.)

Now going to start hitting the Jhakar with a huge brick...

(PS:- Shemsu-Heru... I was on the verge of asking if you were going to do the trikals. They'll definitely find a use along with the carrikals. Very nice... Also, I've done a lot of weird skyboxes for Demoness Tales... One thing I have found is that spheres (planets, moons, suns) tend to distort a little in-game, especially if an Area is very long and narrow rather than totally square... I'll mess around with an Athas-esque Skybox and see what happens. If I get anything that looks good, I'll package it in with the Tembo etc).

The PHoD Desert Tembo in two sizes...
The smaller one is, give or take, the size stipulated by the "Dark Sun" information I've been working to. The larger one, whilst probably useful as a pack leader or whatever, was mostly done because I wanted a bigger one for use in "Demoness Tales"... an eight foot tall (excluding horns) Demoness needs worthy adversaries, not things she can trample underhoof without noticing.
I made the texture a bit more sand coloured than the vaguely orangey look they seem to have in most of the illustrations. It's a composite of various artwork versions - with all the (few) features that seem to remain constant, huge claws, sabre fangs, square ears, humped back, dorsal spikes, etc - plus the inevitable side-effects of my rubbish abilities clobbering gmax with an unnecessarily large brick.
Posted Image
And the Mountain Tembo, also in two sizes. Darker, rock-coloured hide with greyish-white bone armour plates. Otherwise the same as the Desert ones... Now I return to poking the Jhakar with a pointed stick to see if I can persuade it to stop having weird problems with its verts...

I gotta ask before I get started, what's everyone's favourite Tiger skin?

I think its a choice between Q or Bloodsong's at this point. Not sure who did Q's though so I may just go with the Bloodsong one which, if I'm remembering right, has gone from Stovik editing the original Dire Tiger skin, edited again for Hydromancer's feline pack and then possibly a skin touch up for the first CEP release like a lot of his creatures, to Bloodsong finally releasing it alongside a white tiger and black one. A long history behind that skin

@PLUSH HYENA of DOOM:
Good work with the Tembo. An Athasian Sky-box would be great, thank you.
BTW I'm not sure but in the original game Sky-boxes; It's seem that moon and sun are different objects than the base sky. Perhaps that could prevent the distrosion....

@Mecheon:
If the Bloodsong's tiger is the one included in CEP. Then I Think that I prefer PQ tiger.

Those tembos look very, very cool. I can tell you right now that when this month is over and I have those files in my hands, they're going into my PW.

The Dragon's paw is a cool Athasian two-bladed Polearm weapon with a curved blade in the middle. According with "Dragon Magazine" this weapon equates to an orc double-axe. (Parts are interchangeables).

MORE Dark Sun Animals from the Shabby Hyena Weirdo...

By means of blistering skill and profound insight, I dealt with the outrageous problems the rubbish Jhakar was having (such as levitating six feet in the air in-game for no readily apparent reason, which was a mildly comedic but otherwise worthless attribute)... In other words, I scrapped it and started again. The NEW Jhakar works properly and hopefully doesn't look too much like a freakishly squat and lumpy Miniature Dimetrodon...
Also completed and working are the Zhackal, (a small, Jackal-like creature that kills you stone dead by staring at you with its murky psychic powers) and the Rasclinn, (a more benevolent metal dog sort of thing).
Posted Image
I'd do a whacking great Silt Horror next, only it would need piles of custom animation for all the tentacles and so, for once, I'm going to be sensible(ish) and look at the list again for some more feasible creatures.

PS:- The image of the Rasclinn in the 2E information appears to have some sort of mane - Actually, it looks like a wig... I tried giving my Rasclinn model a wig, but it just looked damned silly no matter what I did with it. Thus, I removed the noxious wig again and threw it away. If the Dark Sun "experts" amongst you assure me that the wig is an utterly vital feature of the beast, I will see if I can reinstate it without it looking so rubbish but, frankly, I like the creature the way it is, sans wig.

Hyena of DOOM... I keep seeing bits and bobbles of clothing parts in your screenshots that I've never seen released on the vault (such as the shin parts below)..  any chance you would make a clothing release?

Wow. Only the 4th day of the month, and it's looking like it's going to be a very large collection of new stuff.

For the non-model makers out there...you, too, can get involved. Think of all the prefab items, monsters, and NPCs that could be made just in the toolset for Dark Sun environments. Desert elves, cannibal halflings, bald dwarves? If you know some scripting (or have Lilac Soul's script generator), you could do some custom "psionic powers" scripts. How about prefabricated desert or desert city areas?
