Well there was an interview with Casey Hudson floating about
the forums today and he mentioned that of course the Xbox 360 has a shelf life
and the release of Mass Effect 3 will depend on that.

It's pretty safe to assume in the next year or so we will probably begin to see
titbits of the next generation Xbox but that probably won't be around till late
2012 to the end of 2013 going by past patterns of console releases.

Now it is safe to assume that Microsoft will shove a new horrid proprietary storage
device that means all the old Xbox stuff is not compatible with the next so transferring
saves will not be possible.

Combined with the fact that Mass Effect 2 has removed the problems with the
engine that were in ME1 and it seems clear the devs will have smoothed out the
continuation of ME2 to ME3 in terms of save game transfer. I don't think they
will be improving graphics greatly either because I don't think the Xbox has
much more to give (obviously PC will constantly upgrade).

So with Bioware already confirming that work in ME3 has begun and the view
coming across (to me in interviews although it is subjective) that Bioware are
happy with ME2s engine graphics ECT... So all they'd need to do is right the
story, design new characters, voice everything, right a new score, develop
missions and bug test (which shouldn't be too bad because the engine should be
solid by that point ironing out any problems from ME2).

Assuming I'm not underestimating what Bioware needs to do too much (I know I
am) I think it is a safe bet that we will see ME3 end of next year or beginning
of 2012.

What does everyone else think? Some dev feedback would be interesting in terms
of how long a production for a game like that ME2/ME3 takes.
