I don't play Video games for Fun

I don't play FOR fun. That's degenerate logic. I can go outside for fun, I can build a pyramid out of sand for fun. I can masturbate for fun
I play a game for good gameplay and from that, is where fun is derived.
Fun is not the intended product, it's a result of good gameplay.

What was that about logic?I don't play FOR fun. I play a game for good gameplay and from that, is where fun is derived.
People buy/play for different reasons. Some prefer it purely for entertainment purposes, some prefer the interactive element over other art mediums, some prefer the storylines, and I'm sure there's a treasure trove of other reasons. There's nothing wrong for enjoying an Intellectual and Coordinational challenge.I play video games to make intelligent choices and to experience a test of skill and competition.
My personal view is if you can interact with it to one degree or another, it can be a game. Going off of an earlier post in an unrelated topic, many adventure games and visual novels were very light on gameplay but still hailed as enjoyable/memorable. Different strokes for different folks. The original post is borderline trolling.I don't consider story based games or QTE button mash simulators to be games. Examples of games include Counter Strike, Comman and Conquer, Dota, Tetris.

He's cool because he plays games for the skills involved. He says he goes and does stuff outside for fun. Ironically, playing outside involves more skill than video games.

Well now, look at that. First gameplay, now you don't know that fun is a purposeful objective of video games. I don't know what you're having but pass that.Lazengan wrote...

You just contradicted your own statement.
Nevermind that your point of view is narrowminded to the point of ignorace. Just because you don't have fun with playing story-driven RPGs or enjoy say an action adventure game with lots of QTEs, doesn't mean it's not fun for others or that such products do not deserve to be called games or whatever.
Different people play with different mindsets, different expectations and have different preferences and all of that together translates to what they experience as fun and which other combinations they end up not liking.
I for one enjoy a challenge and wouldn't play for example any of the Mass Effect games on a difficulty level below Insanity. Any less difficulty feels boring, unengaging, there's no sense of accomplishment from me if all it takes is a single shot/power cast/whatever.
And then there's people that are not as endeared by challenging gameplay, let alone capable to play on such a level comfortably enough to enjoy it. People that for example chose the role playing difficulty in ME3, because they derive their fun playing ME3 not from challenging encounters and gameplay, but rather from its story and characters without suffering any frustration from not being able to defeat that one boss, etc..
Open your mind and do not go down the road of discriminating against games (or the next logical step the players of such games) just because you don't like them.

Not accepting that not everybody wants to play to win by saying "those aren't games" is just closed minded and ignorant.

He did list such games (CS, CnC, Dota, Tetris), he just worded it in an easily misinterpreted way.

Tetris? I completely missed that in the OP, but dang, that's just one level above Solitaire in my book.Neofelis Nebulosa wrote...

You know what? I think it's great that we're not all carbon copies of each other, and each one of us is entitled to our opinion. I just don't see why a thread was needed to pose as the proverbial rooftop, to shout it from.
