Was Maya Brooks a Parody?

Spoilers, I'm assuming you've played Citadel. And by the way, I'm not trolling, I'm genuinely curious.

I'm wondering if Maya Brooks was some kind of self parody of a Bioware character, at least the persona she used when she was infiltrating Shepard's group. Its like she's a distillation of the adorkableness of Liara, Tali, and especially Samantha Traynor but cranked up to annoying levels. At first I thought maybe Bioware was just getting a little sloppy but then Brooks awkwardly mentions a program she wrote called "Mr Biscuits" and I thought "thats gotta be parody."

Knowing who she really is, I feel like she was mocking Shepard with that but I also wonder if Bioware was poking fun at one of their own preferred characterization tropes with her.

They carried it a bit far though. I don't know about the rest of you, but when she finally revealed her betrayal, I wasn't pissed like with Kai Leng, I was instead thinking "YES! I get to shoot her! Thank you Bioware!"

Not sure if thats what they were going for.

I don't think that she was really a parody. More like that she, in-universe, tried too hard to appear innocent and harmless, making her look even more "adorkable" than even ME1 Liara (Tali only really counts as such in a few conversations). I think it was meant to be foreshadowing that something's off about her.

Still, I feel kind of bad about thinking "Yes, I get to shoot her."

I wasn't like that till I started playing shooters regularly. I may still highly value the sanctity of human life but with video game characters, I'm a sociopath.

Do you think she was deliberately basing the persona off of those other characters or just figured that playing awkward and nerdy would throw off suspicion?

She wouldn't have known about those traits in Tali since for the most part they only show up on the romance path. ME1 Liara... maybe, I guess, but I kind of doubt it. Traynor is again a maybe, but her brand of "adorkableness" didn't seem to be the same as Brooks'. I think she was just throwing up a general aura of harmlessness and innocence.

Brooks? Come on, she was suspicious from the beginning. And then... "Mr. Biscuits?"

I was too distracted by her hotness.

Should have known, she had crazy eyes.

I fell for it too but for finding it annoying. I was too busy trying to decide if Bioware was just overusing their character formula or if they were poking fun at it (which actually kind of fits the tone of the rest of the DLC).

But yeah, missed a bunch of clues too.

Just to be clear though, I liked Citadel as a whole. Just Brooks was annoying and there were a couple of moments that felt a little too self indulgent.

I liked the Brooks character quite a bit. Well, the Brooks before she flipped a table. And it wasn't cuz of the oh, admit it, you liked someone looking up to you type thing. BS.

She was what Vega was supposed to be (And I like Vega). But Brookes, the original, was truly the fresh set of eyes from outside. The one that gave perspective to the truly crazy shyte you were doing. A regular person that would throw up a little bit in their mouth.

She was funny and refreshing, and had a great voice actress--whomever she was.

Such a shame. I was really hoping to see her in a new game. As she was originally. Not the Cerberus, alien hating bruja she turned out to be.

I know, right?

Probably the most attractive human female character in the series turns out to be a self-absorbed back-stabbing harpy. Epic troll.

Also... Dat realism!

Even in a videogame, I can't get myself to kill a girl unnecessarily.

She is easily the most attractive human female character in the series.

Miranda would probably be my runner up, but her character model occasionally suffered from uncanny valley to a much greater degree.

@Greenguy Shot First: Jack has much more beautiful face, Kasumi and Miranda have much hotter bodies; Ashley is what I like to call a "perfect medium", and as that she is superior to Maya Brooks, etc.

Jack has a beautiful face, but she's also bald and covered in tattoos. Obviously different strokes for different folks and all that...but bald and heavily tattooed are not qualities I consider attractive. That isn't to say that I think Jack is unattractive, just that because of that she wouldn't my choice for the most attractive human character.

Kasumi is the human Tali. Nice body, but her face is a bit of a mystery.

As for Miranda's body, I think it is slightly overrated. She's got a little too much junk in her trunk. Or at least she looked like she did in that white jumpsuit. Did I mention I prefer the black one? Posted Image

I guess I never paid attention to Brooks much, but she is pretty.

I actually like her backstabby version more. I don't like the "adorkable" thing anywhere. OK, maybe I do. Suddenly I like Felicia Day since watching Supernatural. Never cared before.

Anyways.. I like the meaner Brooks because she brings back some potential to the human centric elements in the game universe. And without being a madman like TIM. If there are other people like Brooks, they're a real threat. Level headed, but vicious.

@ Green guy with weird ears shot first:

I have the habit of counting "face" and "body" separately;

Jack: Best face
Kasumi: Best body (shape+flexibility)
Ashley Face: Wins over Miranda and Kasumi, loses to Jack
Ashley Body: Wins over Jack, loses to Kasumi, hence "perfect medium".

Maya Brooks is an inferior "perfect medium" to Ashley.

P.S. doesn't Jack's ponytail redeem her hairstyle?

Not that I don't have opinions about such things but I'm kind of disappointed that this ended up as a "who's hotter" thread. Not disappointed with any of you. Just disappointed.

But then it seems I got the info I'm going to get. If Bioware ever commented on Brooks being a parody, I'm sure it would have been mentioned here by now, and I know I'm very much in the minority on finding the pre-reveal version of Brooks annoying.

Probably not the minority in general. Gamer culture doesn't represent everyone. The world at large might not like "adorkable" characters, but a subculture would.
