I was going to make my first run a female dwarf warrior, but since dwarves are incapable of even doing magic.... would people even trust a dwarf to lead?

I know they could be 'neutral' in regards to templars and mages.... but I don't know

dwarves are resistent to magic as well, so a pro templar dwarf quisitor might make sense in at least one respect.

I was gonna reroll a FDC Warrior for my 3rd Origins run....can dwarves actually spec the templar? I think a templar/champion would be awesome

Why would the inability to perform magic keep people from trusting the Inquisitor? If anything, being a completely non-magical being seems like it would make people trust you more, considering they'd rather lock mages up than risk them losing control.
(Does not apply to mages themselves, obviously. THEM I can see being mistrustful of an Inquisitor without magical ability.)

True....but someone I doubt that'll matter to the "Red Templars" I hope they're not indoctrinated....

what about faith? I plan to RP my dwarves/elves not exactly the most...chantry loving LOL

I know "this" inqusistion is not chantry backed, but still.....

Why wouldn't people trust a dwarf to lead if the dwarf was capable of leading and was a good warrior? I think it would be her decisions and actions that mattered. From the teasers so far, there will be more general populace reactions to race than there was in DAO but for game-making events race won't matter. Perhaps it might be harder for a dwarf to form an alliance with x but that's ok because an elf won't do well with y and a human with z.

Dwarves have also know to not give a flying [expletive] about surface politics so they're fairly neutral.

Why wouldn't it make make sense the dwarves are pretty much neutral, are good warriors and capable leaders.

Not having magical capabilitys and being a dwarf isn't going to have that much of an impact since as some of the previous poster's mention it's not just about the mages and Templars, not about just dwarves, not about a single country or nation everyone is having problems and most of them are because of the main antagonist.

It won't matter in the long run if you play as a Dwarf but let's say you play as an Elf you will be treated like crap in some areas but if you go to a place where elves are they will help you more, give you information and treat you better. If you were to play as a Qunari it will make the game harder and you will have a hard time completeing some sequences or might get locked out of certain things.

There's more to Thedas than JUST magic, and there are other problems going on than JUST the Andrastian human mage and Templar conflict. Corruption among high ranking world leaders, civil war, elven uprising, tear in the Veil, demons pouring in en masse, and who know what else? I think they care more about who's qualified to lead a new organization to handle all these problems over who could potentially have been born a mage, never mind whether they are one or not.

Well since mage vs Templar is not the main focus, I don't see how it would matter any more than a dwarf trying to bring peace between humans and elves.

I think it'd work more so than any other race tbh because dwarves have an outside perspective of the situation.

Not to mention, by that logic, would a non-magic Inquisitors of any race make sense if the ability to use magic was really that important? Why hold the inability to use magic against a dwarf when characters of other races could potentially be just as incapable of using magic?

No one chooses whether or not they were born a mage, so it seems a little silly to point to a dwarf and say "Sorry, you can't have this job because there's no way you could have been born a mage" when a non-magic elven, human, or kossith applying for the same job has no more magical ability than them. What's passed has passed. By the time the PC is old enough to become the Inquisitor (late teens, early twenties at least), they're either a mage or not.

Huh?

Why would people distrust the leadership of a dwarven warrior on magical matters any more than they'd distrust a human warrior? They're both equally incapable of casting spells and there is no reason to think that one knows more about the subject than the other.

It's not as if the magic issue is even the central point of the game. If there is any race that people are going to trust less than the others than its probably the Qunari. The majority of their interactions with the rest of the population of Thedas have been warlike and the have a philosophy alien to most - thats a situation ripe for prejudice.

I don't see why the lack of magic really would influence their capability to lead.

A dwarf Inquisitor can make sense. Especially if the developers deemed it fitting lore-wise for a Qunari.

Didn't seem to hinder a Dwarven Grey Warden in DAO (if one of those origins was chosen).

A well respected Mage character can cite knowledge of the arcane as their reason  for leading the inquisition, just as a Dwarf can cite magical resistance as theirs.

but what if the mage inquisitor is a blood mage?

That gives me a hankering to make a female qunari blood mage just to screw with everyone :)

They make more sense than a qunari Inquisitor at this moment.

Why of course op. They're the most dependable, impartial and honorable of Thedas's denizens.

If Bioware decides to include cross promotional volus armor for dwarves then we'd be able to play as a literal god.

Most non-mages would view that as a point in the dwarf's favor. The fact that dwarves can't do magic isn't the main problem, it's the fact that they're either foreign or just not equal members of society. Though even in that, the common man is still more likely to trust a dwarf than an elf or a qunari.

Yes, they can. My 3rd was a Male DC Templar/Champion, and my current is a FDN Templar/Reaver.

Just because they can't perform magic doesn't mean they can't fight spirits, the lore provides 2 occasions of them defeating demons by locking them up with the use of lyrium. The Gangue Shade in Bownammer/The Death Trenches and The Pestilent One in the Legacy DLC.
