The solution is simple, make mages obsolete, get gunpowder

How does this make mages obsolete? Even at this reseach's fruition, the mages would still have the advantage.

not for long.  Mages won't be so special when anyone can point and shoot a cannon to do similar damage, it'll also make the templars job a lot easier

Gunpowder can't heal wounds near instantaneously, nor prevent infections to the level that a mage can.

This isn't 15th Century Europe. Gunpowder is slightly less spectacular when you can project lightning from your hands.

Sorry, I'm on Team Mage.

That mustache is magical.

I hope that this cannon can summon demons for when these mages get desperate. I also hope that these cannons have unlimited ammo, etc.

the gunpowder isn't for them, its for mundanes and templars

It's a disguise, to hide from the Templars.

IT SURE WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT IF SOMEONE DIDN'T LET A QUNARI AGENT WALK AWAY WITH THAT LIST

Then what? Execute them? There were innocents on that list. Women, children, farmers.

The Qun demands you show a little decency.

Now, when Thedas advances technologically to the Modern Age, with assault weapons, Kevlar vests, tanks, and ICBMs, then it'll be interesting.

If that is the price to pay for destroying the Qunari spy network...

We will be saving many lives when the Qunari don't have excellent intelligence and sleeper cells to aid their inevitable invasion.

I'd take out both.

The vast population of slaves in Tevinter, and what are essentially slaves in Par Vollen, could be pretty easily swayed to rebellion. Sten talks a good talk, but I'm willing to bet that the "priests, artisans, farmers or shopkeepers" are just waiting for the moment to take up the torches and pitchforks.

Keep in mind that a mage was very willing to kill himself for his religion.

Oh yeah, that dude. Well, no race is without it's basket cases. I find it hard to believe that a peasant working 16 hour days on a corn farm to support three children would not want for anything more, on the basis of the Qun.

What does it promise them? As far as I know, there's no god to please, and no afterlife to strive for. What's the motivation?

Hmm. Okay, okay, okay. She's supporting three dogs. Three big dogs.

They eat a lot of corn.

Fine, fine. Hope she enjoys her farming.

I'm just sayin', if someone denied my dog corn, I'd probably want to stab them in the eye socket.

They teach you how to enjoy your work, and consider your co-workers family. If this seems unrealistic, bear in mind they have people whose job it is to grasp exactly what job someone is most talented with; that seems to me to be half the job of teaching them to like it.

You know, I'm a southern gal born and bred, but I hafta say, of all the foods I would be willing to rampage over being denied, corn is pretty low on the list.

And I'm pretty sure that you're definitely not supposed to give it to dogs.

I'd go Talvashoth if they tried to take away my pizza, however.
