Grilled or baked corn on the cob is fabulous.

I look at societies like Caesar's Legion in New Vegas and think they really ought to be falling apart. From what I've heard about the qunari, it sounds kind of like the same mold. Doesn't sound anywhere near as clumsy as A Song of Ice and Fire, but still...

Sadly, I can't eat it any more. Which might account for my disdain at the idea of committing murder over it. Not that I was ever a HUGE fan of it anyway.
Touch my asparagus, on the other hand--especially if it's asparagus casserole--and you've just signed your death warrant. <_<

Those dogs belong to the Qun, and the Qun demands respect.
I'm just sayin', if someone denied my dog corn, I'd probably want to stab them in the eye socket.
You know, I'm a southern gal born and bred, but I hafta say, of all the foods I would be willing to rampage over being denied, corn is pretty low on the list.

Really? Why? Meaning more the Qunari than Caesar's legion. I mean that does fall apart as soon as Caesar dies.

The difference is that the qunari actually give people purpose in life, they simplify life. Everyone has a role.David7204 wrote...
I've never particularly liked these kinds of scenarios. It's too easy for storytellers to 'prove' one society is better. And it naturally tends to rely on a lot of telling and not a lot of showing.

From each according to their abilities to each according to their needs and all.

Corn is a very common ingredient in most commercial dog foods, but I strongly disagree that it's necessary at all, and there's evidence that dogs absolutely, positively do NOT need to eat it. It's kind of like wheat for humans: It won't necessarily kill you, but there's considerable evidence that you not only don't need it but that you'll be far better off in the long run for actively avoiding it. Not that we need to devolve into a discussion on the merits of the proper food for canines, or anything.

Well obviously she can't afford to farm cattle to provide her dogs with steak in mushroom sauce, so she has to make do with corn. And I'm pretty sure that you're definitely not supposed to give it to dogs.
ARE YOU SEEING THE PLIGHT OF THE QUNARI PROLETARIAT, YET?

We got a lot of it, from all the subsidies we give our agricultural sectors of the economy to grow it, in order to continue to give them employment and a means of living and to buy their votes. So it ends up being used for everything, as a substitute for sugar, as a new type of fuel, as a component in kitty litter, processed food as filler, cooking oil, and yeah filler in a lot of food products so that they can cut it and still keep it edible.

Something gross and nasty and disgusting, especially when it's boiled within an inch of its life and comes out slimy and slurpy. If you've not heard of it all the more fortunate for you.
And in certain parts of the South, it's pronounced "okreee." Not that you were asking.

Well there's good different - like giving out free balloon animals on sanctioned holidays - and bad different, like forced breeding programs.Darth Brotarian wrote...
I don't get qunari society being better or worse then others, it's just different.
It might not be 'worse' than any other society in Thedas, but it's not the least bit surprising that someone in real life, approaching it from a modern perspective, would find it grossly unappealing.
