I have a Russian acquaintance. Whenever people ask about 'the traditional delicacies of his people', he serves them a shotglass of vodka with an icecube in it.

And bread. Don't forget bread. It's a nation treasure of theirs.

In fact I'm pretty sure Russians are just vodka and bread fueled robots.

It's the butter battles all over again, but with templars shooting holy smite at turkey flesh golems and mages fighting against ham armored hoodlums.

Just in case the non-Southerners don't know, and haven't had it impressed upon them yet that the American South can and indeed WILL fry anything it can get its collective hands on, there is such a thing as deep-fried butter.

You know, if mages had more freedoms, they could devote their energies to pushing the boundaries of the cooking sciences.

I'm kind of afraid this is going to screw up the awesome thing we've got going where we're just posting food porn instead of arguing, but there are Tranquil who are assigned this sort of work. Wynne notes that they're especially good with beer.

There is kind of a fun, positive energy happening in this thread right now, isn't there?

Deep-fried foods are the way to bring people together, just before we all drop dead from cardiac arrest.

Well I made my token effort to bring it back on topic. I'm done.

Russians have excellent soups. The rest is pretty good but hardly fantastic.

Perhaps my bias is due to a lack of Russian restaurants in the area around Columbia or New Orleans

We need to begin researching tachyons harder, so we can coat them in batter and fry them.

And we can serve vodka in the form of a flash of light!

Vodka is overrated, and this comes from someone from an ex-USSR country who's had galons of it.

Back home most places have 100gr shots, rather than the tiny ones served in US. Try to down one of those in one go, especially if the vodka isn't ice cold.

You're talking about people who will deep-fry soda, Plaintiff.  What part of that doesn't say "We'll deep-fry anything that won't kill us first"?

Which doesn't tell us much of anything.  Where do Scottish and Irish food rank?  Above or below Italian?  What about French?  Gimme a means of comparison!

Handy rule of thumb.  Take this question:   "Will you deep-fry ___________?

When applied to American Southerners, the answer is always yes.

Your usual omelette breakfast, a bowl of soup with bread at lunch and something a little more solid, like rice with meat for dinner. In some of the smaller towns/villages people have marinated vegetables, which is a good apperitive and great for complementing a few shots of vodka.
Otherwise, food has to have meat and vegetables. Preferably both.

Only ever had frog legs once, and I wasn't impressed.  Tasted so much like chicken to me that I couldn't see the point of not just eating chicken instead.
