There was a push by a Tennessee senator some years back to make it legal to take home a deer you hit on the road without having to report it.  Not sure if it ever made it into law, though.

At that point, being eaten is probably the best thing that deer carcass can hope for. 

I agree. The man that was trying to pass this law simply wanted people to be able to get something positive out of wrecking (or nearly wrecking) their car, because, you know, plowing into deer at high spends kind of happens regularly in some areas, no matter how careful a driver you are.  He wanted people to be able to take the deer home without the hassle of having to report the deer and get it tagged or whatever.  The concern was that people would abuse such a law and that there would be a deerpocalypse soon after. 

Shortly after I moved to Montana I learned that people outside of Tennessee were laughing at us because the issue apparently made headlines out of state and people thought we maybe had too much time on our hands to be making such a huge deal out of roadkill deer.

During WWI in 1919, there was a unprecedented event on the western front of the war, in which german, british, and french soldiers had all began to celebrate christmas around the same time, and noticed the other sides were doing the same thing. They held a cease fire and began to exchange christmas songs and greetings from their trenches, and reduced tensions so much that many managed to venture out into no man's land and mingled with their enemies, exchanging gifts, food, sovereigns, and pay their respects to the dead.

Can't help but feel a similar vibe from this thread.

All jesting aside, I've always been firmly convinced that there's no better way to find common ground than food.  It really is the ultimate cease-fire.  Probably because I've actually seen this phenomenon happen quite a few times over the years.  Someone mentions some random dish for some random reason, and suddenly people who are nearly always at each others throats are actually bonding.

Only ever had frog legs once, and I wasn't impressed.  Tasted so much like chicken to me that I couldn't see the point of not just eating chicken instead.

I went to the Michaul's (I think that's how it was spelled) restaurant in New Orleans once, a lifetime ago...like almost 25 years.  I can't remember what the food was that I ate but I do remember thinking I'd died and gone to heaven, despite the fact that we waited better than an hour for food.

Hey, five years ago the only thing I'd have been able to figure was the obvious one.  Of course it becomes easier once you realize that English is descended from German and you start to see how striking are many of the similarities.
