its only legal in two southern states to eat road kill

North and South Carolina?

There was a push by a Tennessee senator some years back to make it legal to take home a deer you hit on the road without having to report it.  Not sure if it ever made it into law, though.

At that point, being eaten is probably the best thing that deer carcass can hope for. :?

I agree. The man that was trying to pass this law simply wanted people to be able to get something positive out of wrecking (or nearly wrecking) their car, because, you know, plowing into deer at high spends kind of happens regularly in some areas, no matter how careful a driver you are.  He wanted people to be able to take the deer home without the hassle of having to report the deer and get it tagged or whatever.  The concern was that people would abuse such a law and that there would be a deerpocalypse soon after.

Shortly after I moved to Montana I learned that people outside of Tennessee were laughing at us because the issue apparently made headlines out of state and people thought we maybe had too much time on our hands to be making such a huge deal out of roadkill deer.

During WWI in 1919, there was a unprecedented event on the western front of the war, in which german, british, and french soldiers had all began to celebrate christmas around the same time, and noticed the other sides were doing the same thing. They held a cease fire and began to exchange christmas songs and greetings from their trenches, and reduced tensions so much that many managed to venture out into no man's land and mingled with their enemies, exchanging gifts, food, sovereigns, and pay their respects to the dead.

Can't help but feel a similar vibe from this thread.

All jesting aside, I've always been firmly convinced that there's no better way to find common ground than food.  It really is the ultimate cease-fire.  Probably because I've actually seen this phenomenon happen quite a few times over the years.  Someone mentions some random dish for some random reason, and suddenly people who are nearly always at each others throats are actually bonding.

It's kind of funny how utterly deserted the other mage debate thread is by comparison.

I think we're all more or less sick of having these internet fights. No matter what side you take it's gotta get irritating after a while.

Would you deep-fry templars if it prevented them from becoming red templars?

Red templars would probably taste like koolaid.

Deep-fried mage would taste like pop-rocks. :P

And deep fried qunari would taste like bland nutritional paste.

Ever seen the movie Fried Green Tomatoes?  If we'll kill it'n barbecue it, we'll deep fry it for sure.

Like I imagine Soylent Green would taste?  Or maybe that bland nutrition-only food mentioned in the book Matched?

Do you deep-fry frogs down there? Or was I thinking of France?

Around New Orleans frog legs are eaten, not sure about elsewhere

not my favorite, too fishy, but not fish

Only ever had frog legs once, and I wasn't impressed.  Tasted so much like chicken to me that I couldn't see the point of not just eating chicken instead.

the most unique "niche" meat I've had is snapping turtle, perhaps because of how its usually served, but damn that stuff was good

Indeed it is. One of the best things that happened to me in New Orleans.

ohh where'd you get it?

Forgot the name of the restaurant. I was there with my ex, we've been in just about every restaurant and strip club in that city :innocent:

I went to the Michaul's (I think that's how it was spelled) restaurant in New Orleans once, a lifetime ago...like almost 25 years.  I can't remember what the food was that I ate but I do remember thinking I'd died and gone to heaven, despite the fact that we waited better than an hour for food.

Nah, I'm almost mostly kinda sure Ieldra is a she. From Germany. Combine that with her well reasoned, thought provoking threads and my immediate thought was that Angela Merkel was a Bioware fan. Alas. Too young.

I'm both proud and amazed at myself for knowing just enough German to translate that.  I really should get back to trying to teach myself more.

Hey, five years ago the only thing I'd have been able to figure was the obvious one.  Of course it becomes easier once you realize that English is descended from German and you start to see how striking are many of the similarities.
