Or it's greagoir, and he's in for quite the blackmailing if I ever find out in character. XD
"So, how much lyrium did you say was in the stockrooms again?"
I really like the ideea of Gregoir being the father. I would also like him to be part of the possible siege on Andoral's Reach and fight against Rhys wthout either of them knowing who the other one is and ultimately one of them killing the other.
It would be so tragic. Just like a greek tragedy.
Greagoir as the father of Wynne's baby seems to be the most popular fanfic choice, and I agree that it makes for a more powerful narrative. But somehow I don't think Greagoir will be seen much in Inquisition, whether as Rhys's revealed father or no. He died in some epilogues in Origins, but even if he didn't, Inquisition will take taking place a good ten-fourteen years after the beginning of that game; he was already old during that storyline, and of course there is the reality of his lyrium addiction. If Bioware has any intention of sticking with its established lore, and not of making Greagoir a special snowflake, then that will have to be an issue.
We covered the insanity part a few pages ago : "GREGOIR SMASH ! " "GREGOIR AND DOGGY FRIENDS."
For the death part - it would be funny if they made the same thing they did with Cullen. "I'm not dead damit ! Recruits and their fishwives stories..."
When it comes to lyrium caused insanity - isn't that different from a templar to another ? We have that templar at the docks that's pretty young and he's....how to put it... retarded. There could be templars that can go with a healthy mind up to 70 years old just as there can be templars who go loco at 30 something or even less.At least that's how I see things.
Now when it comes to the age - Irving is the only member in the Circle that remembers the times before Gregoir arrived. I think it's safe to assume that he's the oldest. I'd say that he was around 60 in Origins, so that would make him 70 in DA:I ( that if he didn't die of old age between Asunder and DA:I ).
Now, the next two oldest characters would be Wynne and Gregoir. I think that both were around their 50's. That would make them around 60 in DA:I. Wynne seemed pretty capable, so if Gregoir is still alive and sane I think he would be still able to pack a punch. He would be the grizzled old warrior that isn't capable to fight as he used to,but still he can fight better that many other young guys.
So I don't see it as impossible. Experience can compensate to a certain degree the lacks of the body and lyrium caused insanity seems to kick in on different times, depending on the person.
So don't take my father kills son/son kills father moment and the tragic consequences in the aftermath...or even better - father betrayes his fellow templars, fights them and ultimately dies to give his son time to escape from certain doom. I think it would be a great ending for a man that lived all his life by the rules. He would basically fight against his own nature so that he could save him and die at the hands of the men that were under his command and who he considered his brothers in arms.
Also,it would be very interesting to see Rhys's development and bitterness now that both his parents died to protect him.
