When it comes to red templars, I think that they slowely lose their sanity and become more and more beast like, depending on their red lyrium usage.
I'm sorry to disappoint you, but as I see it, the red templars become , after a certain moment, insane and ultimately more like a beast than a man.

A redemption arc for the red Templars, while it would be an interesting addition if done well, isn't necessary for me, but at least give them some depth to them besides "zomg, crazy!"

This of course leaves the actual Templars and every other mage to be reasonable, and actually be factions you can ally with.

Well it would appear the Red Templars are going to be the enemy Templar faction no matter what, just like it would seem that mage cult from Tevinter will be the enemy mage faction no matter what.

Or exterminate. Don't forget that. A good part of the BSN would be dissapointed if they couldn't eliminate the templars or the mages, depending on their righteous beliefs.

I doubt that we'll be able to kill ALL the templars or mages.

I know it was a joke. I didn't joke though. I really wish that the cancer, that are the vocal minorities, would disappear, or at least get off their high horses.
Yes, killing entire races is silly

You presume Meredith at least was lucid while under the influence of the red lyrium for a while. N o indication she had it until the end. So it's possible red templars copuld plan attacks and missions and when a leader went insane someone else took over as leader.
She got the idol in Act 2, so yeah she had it for a LONG time.

What, about four years by that point, at least, right? Assuming three years between the acts and accounting for the time between Bartrand's admitting of the sale and the very end when Meredith as the buyer is revealed?
