Well, we have seen a few examples for magic in DA:I so far, and having played both Dragon's Dogma and the DA series I can assure you, Inquisition's magic is going to be even more awesome. Apparently, you can even change the shape of the spell do lots of stuff, like creating a wall of ice to cut off the minions from the battle while taking care of the big guy. It's really cool.
I hope they add a spell like the lighting whip from the vid in my link I really want something like that in DAI

I don't know if any here has played Dragon Dogma but does anyone think the magic in DAI will look like this?
I hope so. I am also a huge fan of Dragon's Dogma and would especially like the inclusion of something like the Malestrom and Necromancy spells.

The lightning whip from DD was one of the cooler spells I have used in a video game I think, just animation wise it was pretty damn satisfying. In general though yeah, DA's spell mechanics (and class mechanics) would benefit from some spice.
It looked cool but it was one of the worsts spells in game(played every class/unlocked all passives ect. so thats my ref) you had to charge it up, this made you vulnerable, then it has a second and a half lash time which can easily interupted expecially in NG+ when hellhounds ect. will knock you to your feet at any chance they get... looked cool but ussing it was a liability. My favourite specs were probably the mystic knight and assassin.
Mystic archer was intresting but it played like a boss fight in castlevania or bayonetta ect. you get a little circle to shoot at and press different buttons to see cool stuff happen haha

The biggest hurdle though to get past, when comparing magic in these two games (DD and DA), is the need for charging, and having spell interruptions, just as the above poster mentioned. In DD, you could combat that with the appropriate augments, and/or if you carried around the WyrmKing ring (it shortened the length of time to cast spells). While in DA, there just isn't that much charging up to do. There are definite pros and cons to both games use of magic, but DD's magic was a bit more interesting (though frustrating when getting interrupted...lol!).

That is exactly why I liked it, it felt balanced relative to the difficulty of the game, unlike some of the other spells that would just instantly vaporize an entire screen full of enemies, or one shot a boss. They are fine for those who like doing that, but I personally don't get any entertainment out of PLAYING a game like that, it's cool to do once or twice just to see it though. For example my Mystic Knight was the most unbalanced thing ever, but enchanting a weapon and flying through the air in a superman pose to one shot a drake, is amusing, once.

I liked the gameplay of DD, though I must confess I never finished it. The lack of quick travel killed it for me.

i loved dragons dogma, some of them spells were crazy awesome.
Although I hated how you just had to stand there casting and hope you weren't knocked down, when the spell was cast it was SO cool, even if its not always the most effective way to fight.
Since DA allows you to control party members and actually tank and protect your mage while hes casting, that won't be a problem.

I agree DA could use some more spice in their spells. I also like the idea of a mage/sorcerer being just as BAMF as a warrior or rogue. The animations (floating during Bolide, swirling the staff during Malestrom) and even sound effects (the grunt of effort for Gicel) make magic seem more "heavy" and "real" in DD, too.

As for spellcasting more like DD, very much would enjoy that, although I can't remember if DD had cooldowns or not (something I abhor).

Bloodmages and Saarebas could easily wipe your party on Nightmare if you didn't deal with them immediately. Granted, the regular human mages encountered were absolutely useless.

DA2 was generally harder than DAO on upper difficulties (in my experience anyways), but the mages still didn't feel to me as powerful as they should be. I recall the Saarebas being strong though, just not strong enough. I want them to be strong enough to wipe out my party if I don't kill them in a few seconds, but those few seconds should be all it takes if I get close enough. One or two hits.

My favourite spell in DD would have to be stone forest (stone grove with the mystic knights ring) and the wrymking ring. Nearly an instant cast and boy did it hit like a tonne of bricks. Guaranteed burning, knockdown and allot of aoe damage. The whip was usefull up untill u started fighting hellhounds. God those beasts were a pain in the butt. Magick archers and mystic knights completly owned that game.
Back on topic, I always felt that mages were more cc masters than damage dealers in origins/awakening. In da2 they were more lethal and interesting.
Still want my arcane warrior back though.....even though it probably wont happen
