I am very surprised that the DA series has a following in China because it's made for a niche crowd of players. That Chinese who are not fluent in English still love the franchise is a testament to how good the series is.

I hope you get your Chinese subs, OP.

^ People in Africa play DA man. Gaming is universal.

^I know that. I just didn't think that a game series like DA would hold the interest of people who are not fluent in English and do not have a version of it in their language. The dialogue is one of the main attractions of the series after all.

I would have thought this would already be available, or at least a mod or app that can subtitle the game in Chinese. Naivete rears its head once again.

I support.

The EA Site. Select United States and look for an option to contact an adviser. Then you may have to answer some questions (me2 key or Security question) and they fix it :-)

If enough Chinese people show interest in Bioware games, EA could decide to add Chinese to the languages they translate the game into. That is not simple or cheap, however, because it requires the creation of new teams of translators and testers. That means either opening a Chinese EA division or having the Chinese team join another division somewhere in Asia, that would be basically importing workers from abroad.

We have been playing games since the Dawn of Computer/Video Games here in Finland but there is still no finnish subs in games. we just had to deal with it. Chinese though are so numerous that I would expect them to atleast make subs if these games would be sold there. The market is so huge.

Thanks for your support:lol: Wish you have Finnish version as well.

There is something new: I find that Heroes of Dragon Age has Chinese subtitles, although not very perfect. I think Bioware&EA can base Chinese subtitles in DAI on that.

I'm Chinese but I don't think "adding an official Chinese version" is a good idea. Based on my experience, from Neverwinter Nights to The Witcher, most "official Chinese translation" are terrible. I have bought The witcher 2 and can only say WTF to the official Chinese translation, I have to correct the translation bugs one by onemyself:

Comparing to some "official translation team", the "players translation teams" are much more reliable in China. I once worked for one team that have created Dragon Age and Fallout 3 Chinese translation Mods. Their jobs are perfect and enjoyed by our Chinese players. After all, they did this not for money, but for enjoying their loved games.

So, in my opinion, if EA could not find a good Chinese translation team, then please do NOT add any Chinese subs in their games. English will not ruin a great game, but the bad translation will.

That depends on how much care is given to localization and how well translators are chosen. A good testing is also paramount; it helps point out mistakes and inconsistencies of all kinds. If no thorough testing is done the localization will always suck no matter how good translators are.

The problem is that a game like Dragon Age is BIG. I would say a team of translators, testers and developers working full time on it could take anywhere from 6 to 9 months to do it all from the beginning of the translation to the end of the testing, possibily more.

I doubt it costs too much for bioware. Just get a good translator and create the Chinese subtitle for the game.

I think it's important to give people playing localised versions, the option to play the original, too. There are a few games knocking around on Steam (other digital content delivery platforms are available) which have terrible translations which you are locked into using - I'm sure there woud be lots of people in Russia, China, Germany, Australia and other countries who would be grateful if they could shelve the sucky translation into their local language, and play the original.

(to say nothing of those of us who travel and have to play games in Russian etc.)

I have some experience in the field and it just doesn't work like this, unfortunately.

When I was a little fox I really enjoyed Gothic 1 , but I could understand only about 60% of it. That one had some dialogue too and if you didn't understand what the guy was telling you, you'd just run like a nutjob through the entire island. Still liked it.

Interestingly both the Witcher games got Chinese sub support and I fully expect it for Witcher 3 as well so there's definitely a market for Western RPG here in Taiwan. Fully support this since I do remember playing the original Baldur's Gate with a dictionary and how much pain that was.

this is completely unnecessary. DAI is very text-heavy, the translation will require additional labor force. And I suppose most players of DA can understand English well.
