The Fade really isn't that bad once you know what you're doing. That first time, sure, but once you remember the order it just becomes "go here, here, here, and kill the Pride Demon". If you want to go back for all the stat upgrades that's a choice, not a requirement. I actually like Awakening's Fade level - but I guess it's in color if you're forcibly sent there, but not "normally"?

I actually love the Deep Roads. It's what it's supposed to be - a long, Darkspawn filled series of corridors and ruins. There are a lot of great items strewn throughout the levels, and some pretty challenging fights. If you're in it purely for the roleplay and romance I can see why you'd hate it, but it's the closest Dragon Age ever gets to what it's really like to be a Warden.

Awakening's fade level is great. The deep roads in Awakenings and Origins were great too. DA2 not as much when you revisited to find Nathaniel and whatnot.

Some of the balancing in general was atrocious. I'm not expecting it to be like WoW, but there could be orders of magnitude of difference between builds. An AW/BM mage would probably do 100 times the damage of a default built warrior. The combat could stall and feel clumsy in general really.

One thing DA2 got right was art. Not the darkspawn and definitely NOT the elves, but overall it was great stylistically both in the world and the UI. DA:O was pretty standard and a bit outdated in that respect.

Please keep the crafting system of DA2. It's the one thing they finally perfected. No steps backward, please.

The method of making potions, runes, and poisons/bombs ... soooooo much better. No bugs and it all works, too.

(I wouldn't complain for new recipes, though. Just keep the system. There is a weird imbalance between defensive and offensive runes - that could be tweaked.)

What I would not like to return from DAO:

*The silent protagonist.
*Silly mage hats
*Slow sword-and-shield and 2h-combat (others are ok)
*No helmet toggle
*Overpowered enemy archers
*Female light armor with cleavage.

Features disliked by many others I do want to return:

*Fade sequence with puzzles. Love it. Needs improved visuals though. Drastically
*Friendly fire. "No friendly fire" removes tactical depth since you can just spam AOE attacks at will.
*Long dungeon crawls if that is appropriate for the location. In the Deep Roads anything *else* makes no sense, and it creates a feeling of being far away from civilization. Very, very appropriate.

Controversial features I would like to return:

*DAO combat speed for all classes except 1h- and 2h-warriors. DA2's combat speed and animations are ridiculous to the point of adversely affecting my enjoyment of the game.

Overwhelm.

It was already bad in DAO, what with the spiders and the werewolves. But then it took on a whole new level of awful in Awakening with the Children. *shudders*

^This....the amount of times in the werewolves den, where I spent most of the time on the floor cause they kept taking turns, and when I was finally able to get up the last one is being killed.

I think these have all been said but:

Orzammar. As a whole. The deep roads alone don't get me, it's just that by the time you finally get to them you've already spent 14 hours (this is perhaps exggerated) running around for Harrowmont/Bhelen. Then you have another 3 hour dungeon crawl. Oy. I'd rather do the Fade 3 times over.

Related... giant areas without the option to jump back to camp. Like having to run totally out of Orzammar to pull up a fast travel. With several load screens in between.

And I agree with the spell effects, I thought DA2 really improved that. My favorite was the floating eyeballs in Awakening. One of Justice's maybe? I feel like he was just eyeballs a lot. Or the rock dandruff.

I dislike focusing on the negative, since there is so much to like about DA:O, but I suppose I can rattle off a few "cry me a river" little peeves I had with the game:

Graphics:
- Ugly headgear with no toggle off.
- Ugly, yellow, rotted teeth.
- Ugly necklaces on everybody covering graphics neck-seam.
- Lack of variety in rogue & mage armor (DA2 did a great job with fixing this, though).
- Lots of scraggly bum hairdos and few nice ones (a matter of opinion, I suppose).
- No choice of body models.

Plot & Gameplay:
- Save game limit.
- Overwhelm.
- Visual effects of sustained abilities persisting outside of battle.
- Boring, repetitive Fade sequences (could have been much shorter and bearable with all forms up front).
- Dead companions returning (even cardboard replacement characters are better).
- Random drops for unique gear (e.g., Fade Wall) - this isn't an MMO ffs.
- Gender/race restrictions on romances or romance outcomes (yes, I realize many disagree with this. My opinion only.).
- Lack of reviving ability beyond Spirit Healer (a revive bomb would have been nice).
- Necessity of rogue in party for lockpicking (seems like this is addressed, though).
- Inability to respec/redistribute skill points (DA2's solution was perfect).
- Boring crafting system (hardly used).
- Extremely hidden items that if you miss, you can't get any other way (like Ancient Elven boots in that locked cabinet in Lothering... at least allow them to be found on some darkspawn as loot later).
- Dog taking up a whole party-member slot (although the summoning in DA2 wasn't quite right either. Wish that when you gather your party, you can choose whether to take your dog in the pet/summon slot).

Sound:
- Annoying sounds repeating constantly (e.g., Leliana's battle cry, violent Warden voice's "If I get you a ladder, will you get off my back?" comment, etc.).

That said, DA:O is still one of my favorite games ever. :D

There was a savegame limit in DAO? Not for the PC version. That's something I would like to return in DAI.

I wonder how many pages will be in a thread about "Things you don't want returning from DA2"?

Having bisexual Lis being the minority/not the majority
I don't care if it's supposedly not realistic (which is arguable itself b/c in DA2 the only bisexuals you encountered during the world of the game is 4 of the 5 LIs, Tallis, and a smattering of NPCs. Beyond that the majority of the NPCs could be not bisexual for all the PC knew).
I merely want the option to romance any or most of my companion as the character that I play.

Dark Grey, Brown, Puke Green and other dull colors can stay out.

I like strong colors, stuff like grey is just weak.

VIBRANCY! That'd be nice.

Yeah, at least on Xbox w/Dragon Age Ultimate Edition (not sure about the others, but I suspect them also). I forget the number, but it counted each DLC game as a separate career/character, so even though I only had 2 characters at the time, I couldn't make a third without deleting a Golems of Amgarrak or Leliana's Song career/character.

Yes, there is a savegame limit, I don't remember very well, but I think we can create only 10 characters.

I don't like it and I want to create more and more.

And I don't like spells/talents trees from DAO neither from DA2.
We are obligated to add some spell/talent that we don't want till we get our option.

I don't want to see:

* Gimmicky companions (like Shale, Justice, or Dog - who was better as a summon)
* "Sexy" lady rogue outfits
* Only one s/s romance option
* As much as it pains me to say it: Silent protagonist. I always supported this, but I recently replayed DA: O and it felt awkward to go back to this after having voiced protagonists in ME and DA2.

What i don't want to see from DA:O

* Fade sequence stuff (thank you modders!!!!) and Deep Roads (ugh.....the no fast travel was a pain)

* Dull colors, too many browns
* Boob plate armors, silly armor design, ugly mage outfits
* Slow shuffling combat, people stuck in the crouch position
* Silent protag (I agree with daveliam, had played through anouther DAO a couple of months ago, and after ME and DA2, it felt like a chore)

Oh! I forgot to add that I HATED that the visual effects from buffs and spells were visible during the discussion scenes. It actually made me turn off all buffs so that I didn't have little stars and twinkles around my characters in all of the conversation cut-scenes.

The Fade--those puzzles were bad, but I could have dealt with them.  What was worse was the random bug that still happens in the Fade.  I'd try reloading saves, including ones from further back, disabling mods, and it would still crash.  I finally installed the Skip Fade mod and went on from there.  More than the Fade itself, the bugs were bad.  And the Fade level in DA2 was an annoying joke.

Armor and Hair clipping
--Even with the regular non modded armor, it got seriously old.

Horrible mage robes
--They were better in DA2.  I'm beginning to think that Fereldens have very poor fashion sense.

Enemies spamming abilities
--such as the aforementioned Scattershot

Friendly fire--I'd still like an option to disable that for Nightmare difficult in the upcoming game.

Overwhelm
--Bears, spiders, oh my! Seriously, those things can play hide and go f...nevermind.

Surprise Romance
--This happened in DA2, but not as much.  Please keep this as clearly labeled as possible!  I think the new dialog wheel will help prevent that.

Keep it in the tent/bedroom--This was something I liked about DA2.  It is very awkward to have those sex scenes at Camp in front of everyone.

Class recognition
-- As examples, if I'm a Blood Mage or a rather zealous Templar, the other companions should comment on this.

Finally, the Silent Hero.  It's nearly 2014, and I like hearing my PC speak.

For me, the shuffle shuffle shuffle during combat. Just move to who I click and get started already. Also, less Fade. I'm not a big fan of long parts taking place in the Fade.
