Hello everyone,

I am a fresh custom content maker and still learning much of things, however I really could use some help guys.
My goal is to make creatures from Icewind Dale into NwN. I have already created the 'Neo-orog' whit vanilla orc textures, but im stuck with 'salamanders' - I have used Improved baba-yagas youan-ti as a base but im crap when it comes to gmax. I need someone to help me with spikes on the back and antlers on head, also a slighty head remake.

I've also searched all of vaults hak's to find 'ankheg' or 'remorhaz' but one provieded are really bad - I don't want to be rude or anything here (I wouldn't have done better myself)

Ankheg - there is a model on with no animations that is far better that ShadowM has created - is there anyone with time to make animations to model provieded?

Remorhaz - I don't think that anyone tryed to make one besided the creature pack and Im am eager to help create a better version.

This game is immortal when people are still adding new stuff and we can already create a world in toolset that suits are needs but the creatures I have listed are really vital (I hope not only for me)

Best regardsImage IPB

Salamander - I think this sounds like an excellent project critter. Have you done a re-texture on it yet? I can certainly help with adding spikes and antlers to it. I think using that yuanti as a base is a great idea...it's already a very impressive model on its own.

Ankheg - I re-textured the version found in the CEP (ShadowM's perhaps?) for my PW a while ago, but haven't tried working on animating a newer one. It works for me, especially since I added a "dirt explosion" VFX to it's on-spawn script so it looks like it just burrowed up from below.

Remorhaz - Unfortunately, I think a convincing remorhaz is a bit too much for my skill level.

That's the fire salamander texture, I can share it with you if you like it :)
That would be great if you could help with antlers, also I think that head is slighly to snake-like?

Hmm the anims for ankheg are poor so re doing them would be great! Also can u show me your textures for ankheg ?:)

Remorhaz - hmm I really new here so maybe we should try to ask someone with the skill to make new one for the vault, Im shure it would go to Hall o Fame

Sure, if you want to send me the texture file, go ahead.  You can find my email addresses through either the PW or community site links in my signature.

If you send me that salamander texture, then I'll have your address for the ankheg one.  The texture is the only thing I changed, so the animations aren't different, but still looks good enough for an acid-spewing, burrowing critter that drops a hunk of chitin when it dies. :)

For the remorhaz...if it was made to look nice, I'm sure many folks would find a use for it.  I think it would definitely need an appear/disappear animation of it burrowing into the ground and breaking back out again (since they attack by melting/burrowing up through ice).  As far as it hitting Hall of Fame...not likely.  Nothing new makes it that far anymore...not enough people vote on things in the last couple years on the old Vault to hit 25 votes of any level.

Where is your email adress or anything ?:)
Any news with salamander antlers :)?

oOKyeOo - I don't think so, I was trying to locate remorhaz for a few months now anywhere in the vault, if you have any information of a decent looking one please let us know!

Best regards

If you look at the bottom of the front page of the NWN Community Site, you'll find one address that reaches me. If you look on my PW's site and hit the "Contact" link, there'll be another address. :)

If you email me the texture for the salamander, I'll get to work on the antlers and spikes.

I was originally just going to add antlers and spikes to the re-textured yuan-ti abomination, however...

I wanted to change to a more human/demonic looking head, rather than the large snake head.  That required modifying the texture.  I couldn't get a good color match to one Stylesetter sent to me, so I had to make a fresh one from the yuan-ti and troglodyte textures, along with the texture for the head I used and a lava texture.

Stylesetter, if you prefer the more brown tones you started with, I can do that later (after I save copies in these colors for my PW).  Just couldn't match the more brown colors perfectly when adding the head to the texture file.

I re-textured and re-mapped the head model, added it to the body, and resized it so it would look right with the existing body and neck.  I made the antlers from scratch...they're separate from the head part, so I'll be able to scale them down a bit for an average salamander.

I'm going to be adding some small flame emitters (nothing too bright), along with recoloring "flaming eye" emitters for the noble version.

I'm going to go ahead and make models for average salamanders and for flame brothers (the weakest ones).  Flame brothers will look the weakest, scaled down a bit, with no antlers or emitters, and few spikes.

Yeah, i tend to go a little overboard, even when just helping with something "small" at times. :innocent:

That looks sweet, I was hoping someone'd take a stab at the Salamanders at one point which... May be part of why I've been voting up the elemental content. I also know a kind of cool trick if you want to have fun with animated textures that a friend used in WC3

As for the Rhem, the only one I've seen is is Atom's. In theory you could take a centipede or maybe the mist dragon to edit into one, but I've not seen anyone try this since then

Amazing work !
However can you change the beard to 'tentacles' ? like in the link I posted above?
It will appear more reptile :)

The antlers look amazing! After you finish with the mdl I'll start to make textures for ice version of this one
Again awsome work Amethyst !Image IPB

And with the remorhaz - I am kinda desperate, yesterday I learnd how to export a mdl file from gmax so my skills to make one are still to low, Is there anyone left in the community able to make one ?

Oh hey, Lucifron. That's a Warcraft Flamewalker right there, they're more different from Salamanders cause of the chintacles

Plenty of people left who could, just that I doubt its a priority for anyone at the moment. Especially considering a proper one is going to need new animations

Yep, but still the artwork does not refer to facial hair :) - more like spiked facial hair :)

So let's make remorhaz priority !:))

Link for full sized image.  After 3 1/2 years, I still hate that the largest an image can be on these forums is 540 pixels in either direction.

Still need to add a glow to the eyes.  I'm going to stick with the existing facial features for the noble salamander, since I don't think hanging tentacles would look right without flex meshes...and I'm really bad with flex meshes.

I'm doing three different sizes, since the stats show that flame brothers are small, average salamanders are medium, and noble salamanders are large creatures.

The bandit is just my go-to guy for showing relative sizes of things.

damn looks sweet!

Yeah, I've just realize that tentacles should be 'moving'
I think adding some spikes on face could work, like in most artwork :)

You fooled me Amethyst you certainly got skill !
this is a decent salamander that will be a great addon for nwn community

Great work with these salamanders! A question; in the final version you will add a fire effect that surrounds the body of the creature? I think that this sort of thing is nearly the most important part of the looks of these critters!

Anyway, good work! :)

Thanks.  I'm really liking how these guys are turning out so far.

The average salamander and noble salamander actually have 8-10 fire emitters going from their shoulders down the length of their tails.  They're the same as the ones I use for my cinder trolls...there to get the "fire creature" point across, but not blindingly obscuring things like regular NWN flame emitters tend to do.  The flames are more visible in darker areas and from angles that arent' looking directly at the front of the critters.

Salamanders are finished, compiled, and ready to go.  You can get them here.

Thanks for the impetus and input on these.  Not something I really had need of myself, but now that they're made, these guys will be going into my PW's haks so I can add them to at least one volcanic area I've got.

Stylesetter, I'll email you a copy of the uncompiled models so that you can play around with them and do your frost salamander re-texture.

Edit: adding pic

Hi Amethyst!

I am going to add some sort of fire plane node to one of my unfinished modules (an area like the one found in Temple of Elemental Evil) and, thinking of fire critters to fill it, I remembered this post and your work on the salamander creature.

You finished the salamanders some time ago? In that case, you released them?

Thanks!

Edit: Ah! Yes, you release them, I didn`t look the previous posts, sorry!!

No, but I can take a look around and see what I can improve upon...

Found this in the CPP - I've increased the poly count and extended the neck height. Still need to add some details and redo the texture. It also needs some animation work - I don't think the front legs should pull up off the ground. Overall, it'll be serviceable when done.
