As for sales, the fact that digital content is ephemeral and likely to quit working someday is exactly why Steam is the better deal. Origin broke all my old Bioware game codes except ME1. I went back and re-bought DAO Ultimate Edition on Steam during a sale. When I found that my DA2 code wasn't working anymore either, I might have bought it on Steam if it had been in a sale- but it wasn't, so I didn't.
Haven't tried ME1 in a while. That's probably broken now, too.
I'm curious about this: how did Origin 'break' your codes?
As for ME1, you can't add it to the Origin client like you can other games, so I doubt very much that it could be affected.
DAO was broken by the unauthorized DLC bug. That is, I could play it, but couldn't load any old saves or play the DLCs I bought because it kept telling me they were unauthorized. This may or may not have been caused by the changeover to Origin, I'm not sure, but it was around the time Origin was being introduced.
ME2: When I tried to install my Steam version of ME2 on a new PC, it told me my codes were already being used.
DA2: Same, only I had a disc version. I was told the code was invalid.
No, I didn't subject myself to EA customer service hell in order to beg to play the games I bought- I decided I didn't care enough anymore to do so, and this is the main reason I still haven't bought ME3 and am very reluctant to buy DAI, either. I'm sick of having games I bought stop working due to draconian, broken DRM.
As mentioned, I re-bought DAO because I saw it for cheap in a Steam sale, and might have done the same for DA2 (I wanted to play it in order to make a video someone requested) but it wasn't available on Steam so I gave up. If I could get ME3 at Steam sale prices, I'd probably play that, too.
