Hey all, I have played DA:O and DA2 extensively on 360, but I am finding that I am moving away from consoles and more towards PC gaming, so I recently got DA:O on PC and have started a new character.  I kind of have a general idea of how I want to play through the game, and what characters I would like to "import" to DA2.  The only area in which I am undecided are the LI's.  For example:

My current and "main/cannon" character is my male Cousland Warrior.  He is your typical "good guy": saving the Mages, curing the warewolves and helping the Dalish, saving the Ashes, etc.  I am undecided on whether to romance Morrigan or Leliana.  I enjoy both romances for different reasons...I like Leliana's genuine attitude, her good moral center, and she seems fairly sad, something that a romance with the Warden would fix (temporarily).  I also like the aspect of the Warden staying true to Leliana and sacrificing him/herself to save Ferelden.  Morrigan is also great because her character has a lot of depth, and there is a certain appeal to trying to "help" her view the world differently and not be such a cold sociopath.

My next char will likely be a mage who grew up with a silent hatred for the Templars, but over time he mostly overcomes this stigma.  A Leliana romance here would be good to give him a more personal connection to the Chantry, while Morrigan could be alluring because of her similar views about the Templars and the fact that she is an apostate, something the Warden could relate to, at least in theory, as he was always living under the Templars gaze.

Anywho, what do you think? ^_^

Personally I don't like too much angst, which Morrigan's has in triplicate. I prefer Leliana's romance, even if I do the US (though her card is particularly a sad one). While I find Morrigan a more interesting character, Leliana is more caring and genuine. I never got past the 'she only wants you for your OGB making seed' with Morrigan, so I was never able to finish her romance, though I did start one with her a couple times just to see the catfighting banters with her and Leliana.

If it were me, and I was trying to do both scenarios, I'd go with Cousland-Leliana and Amell/Surana-Morrigan. Cousland and Morrigan don't have as much in common as another mage (especially a templar hating mage).

Leliana-Cousland is my favorite OTP aside from Alistair+any female warden, even if I make my boy a king with Anora (since it's just political). Leliana's dialogues are bugged, though so if you go that route, don't speak with her after the Landsmeet where you propose to Anora, until the post coronation scene after the final battle or she will dump you. A friend of mine is working on a mod to fix that and other bugged dialogues in the game related to Leliana. As for 'cheating' on her, just get Alistair/Loghain to do the ritual instead, that way you stay true (though the US is a tragic and beautiful ending to the romance, you can have a 'happily ever after' that way).

And then, swap them out for subsequent playthroughs if you want.  There are so many permutations to the game one or two just doesn't begin to touch all the dynamics and consequences of your choices!

Have fun!

For me, the problem with both the female LI's is that their futures are heavily railroaded. We know from future games that they will each take certain paths - paths which are not necessarily very conducive to long-term partnerships. They are both very strong, independent women who will carve out their own destinies. Neither is going to simply go along with your plans.

But just in terms of their characters, I would prefer to romance Leliana. She's pretty worldly in the ways of romance. And much as I like Morrigan, I like her as a self-sufficient, self-determined character. I can't stand to see her going all gooey over someone.

If you check this again, before you get to the end, go to the nexus and get all the end game dialogue fixes at the very least. You can lose days to browsing through the mods, but just know the DA engine is relatively sturdy as far as using mods goes, in case you've ever been terrified by trying to get Bethesda mods to work properly.
