 If you side with Zatharian, do the werewolves have stragglers that still live even if you slaughter them all in the ruins? I ask this because I like to kill both the werewolves and Zatharian, since I dislike them and find the two to be equally selfish, but i might have to change my mind if there are still werewolves about that can infect other people with their curse.

There's a random encounter that can happen where you're ambushed by werewolves, so it seems pretty unlikely that you kill them all.

Though zathrian's curse is also not the only source of werewolves.

Well, if you attack the werewolves, you only kill those in the lair, not all the werewolves in the forest, so many of them (the bestial ones who aren't 'calmed' by the Lady of the Forest) are left to roam about and spread Zathrian's curse. Also, not ALL werewolves in the B.Forest come from the curse. The only assurance you have that as many werewolves as possible are eliminated is having Zathrian end his curse, curing those in the ruins, those infected by his curse in the woods and the infected Dalish.

How do you kill both Zathrian AND the werewolves? I've only had him end the curse.

Bring Zathrian with you to talk to the lady. After Swiftrunner goes ballistic, agree to help Zatharian and kill all the werewolves. Once the battle is over ask Zathrian what would happen to the Dalish if he was killed during the battle. He will say that they still could be saved since his first also know how to craft the cure. Then say he is not needed and tell him you will kill him (something that Zevran also approves).

If the cursed werewolves are all killed in the ruins, then I think I will go with this route. I personally don't feel much sympathy for them, so I don't see why I should go out of my way to help them.

What you have to understand is that according to their side of the story (and Zathrian doesn't bother to deny any of this side) they're not really evil. They're suffering from what is effectively a mental illness inflicted on them by Zathrian which gives them homicidal tendencies, and he created this mental illness to punish people who are by now very, very dead. The reason the current werewolves are effected is either because it's hereditary, for the same reason the elves are now infected, or (apparently) some of both. Despite this, the higher-functioning ones still had the restraint to ask him to break the curse instead of trying to slaughter him and his out of hand. (That they do this eventually was inevitable given the nature of this curse, and implied to have taken years.)

You'd only be freeing the ones that are connected to Witherfang via Zathrian's curse.
