I don't see how my expressing how this wouldn't add anything to the game is, say, any different than saying I wouldn't feel that adding in auto-attack would make much of a difference. I'm simply forming my argument around if it would add anything to a character and if it would placate the issue of inclustivity that has been brought up by other people in this thread long before I did, as I would know based upon reading Gaider's responses.

It doesn't matter to me, and it matters to you. That's all there really is to it. The writing staff is gonna do what they're gonna do.

Oh I never said you should not express your opinion. I was just telling you that other people should be able to ask this if they wish without getting called out.

It's true though. We're not really here to discuss what BioWare is going to do after all, just what we wish will be implemented. Forums

Indeed, such entitlement over an entertainment product.

The SJWs/Tumblr crowd embody "first world problems" to a T.

Indeed. Instead of focusing on actual social justice issues, these entitled brats waste time trying to make sure that their ideological dogma is shoehorned into video games of all things.

Yeah and instead of focusing on actual social justice issues, you're condescending on a video game forum on the internet.

What's your point?

Imagine if Vivienne was a transgender but you didn't find out unless you read a codex entry or something? I would love that.

The whole thing of acting much higher than people on a different website yet when in reality, none of us are really better than them as we're spending time arguing about the same kinds of things, just on different sides.

VIVIENNE IS ALREADY OFF THE FABULOUS CHARTS. THIS WOULD ALMOST BE TOO MUCH TO HANDLE.

IT MUST BE SO.

People would complain that they're relegated to a codex entry.

Hell would be unleashed if he/she was a romance option.

Imagine the backlash of the Anders flirtation scene.

Now imagine the backlash of romancing someone and not knowing they're actually a man until you discover it in a codex.

Actually, never mind. Backlash wouldn't be too bad because they wouldn't read the codex.

But I'm not an SJW who spends a significant amount of time complaining about first world problems. Unlike many of these SJWs, I'm under no illusions as to who and what I am.

I don't see how saying "I would love it if there was a transgender NPC" is complaining.

On the other hand, "I don't like these people saying they would like a transgender charcter in the game" is complaining. And really petty complaining at that.

Okay, again, no one is dog piling anyone for wanting a certain character. All characters should have a reason to be there. We've been saying this for a very long time now. That is what we mean. If you didn't get that, now you do. We meant that. We do not hate minorities, a lot of us are minorities. We do in fact get it. We do not hate ourselves or others. Did I cover it all, or did I leave something out?

You've stated that you don't have a problem with BioWare including fleshed-out and multi-dimensional characters who happen to be non-white or LGBT, and I believe you.

I don't disagree that it is possible to create a minority character who feels like a public service announcement, and I agree that is definitely something to be avoided.

I think this issue can be a minefield partly because, in trying to convey the above, it can be easy to come across as implying that in your eyes, minority characters need to be even more interesting and better-written than straight white characters in order to prove that they're not simply token.

More generally, I think it's easy for comments like "I only want characters who belong to 'x' group to be included if they fit into the story and meet my standards of good writing" to come across as "I only want to see people like you included on my terms" – even though it may not have been intended that way.

But you're complaining on a video game forum about another website. That's not much higher, if at all, than any of the people you are complaining about.

What orientation? The orientation of the transgender character?

I don't really think it would be relevant to their gender identity.

If you want to have a transgender NPC, you do what they did with Serendipity - you have someone who is biologically X with a gender expression Y.

You don't need to make an issue out of it. You just need to do more than 'this person is a joke' and 'this person is a prostitute.'

There is no need to address anything in the narrative. Heck, it's actually easier than having a queer character.

Strongly disagree with the bolded, and I feel it absolutely would need to be addressed in the narrative if it's to matter. That's the purpose behind this, yes?  Else, what's the point?

So, damned if they make it a big deal, and damned if they don't, then.
Doesn't mean they shouldn't try.
It will be one of the two.

That sounds weird. I mean transgender people do not want to be identified as transgender. THey want to be identified by their proper new gender and preferably general public to not notice anything strange. So who knows - maybe many of the characters are transgender. I wouldn't know nor i would care.

The most disturbing thing would to go through the whole game thinking you're hooking up with a chick, then you hook up with the chick, then she says I love you in this voice after the scene is over.

or more relevant to this thread, a random prostitute from the Pearl.

I think a good way to put a transgender character is don't establish the gender early. Let another part of the character's identity be developed first.

When you first look at Mae, she doesn't look like an obvious transgender. It is only until the next issue were you certain that she was indeed transgender. Before that point, she was just a Magister and a friend of Varric. When we find out about her gender role, the fact that she's transgender didn't affect us as much because we know her as "magister" instead of "transgender character".

So they could play it like that I guess. Let's say you have a Seeker that has a good enough role, not too major, not too minor, but we don't know that she's transgender. Then as the fans are starting to grow on her - WABAM! - she's actually a transgender!

But it doesn't matter anymore. People can easily get past their "fanservice" thoughts about it because we already associate the identity of "Seeker" instead of the identity of "transgender".

I don't know maybe that's a little too goofy. But it doesn't look like an awareness poster so I'll take that method.
