What's people obsession with introducing transsexual characters into a medieval world? I know there's magic and all that but nothing that's mentioned in lore that has the power to change the biology of someone.

Wouldn't transgender NPC's be more fitting in a universe like Mass Effect? And seriously what's the point if they're just going to be thrown in as minor characters who have one line saying "oh BTW I'm transgender" hmm?

Even if you don't change phisically, you are transgender if you identify as the opposite gender from your biological. So transgender people can fit just fine. And it was never mentioned that you can't change your gender either.

A character that is nothing but transgender and does nothing but say so was not requested by anyone.

+They were already introduced in the comics and games, so we know they exist in the DA setting.

It's a valid question, since sexuality and gender expression are independent character traits from a person's interests and personality and professions they may go into.

I'd say one's 'gender expression' tends to influence one's interests, personality, and profession heavily.

But it doesn't have to, because gender identification is separate from those other things: i.e. there are no interests which carry inherent appeal toward one kind of gender and not others. Where it does, it needs to be recognized as a result of gender conditioning rather than gender essentialism, because gender is a social construct, not a biological one.

Purty sure that males got that pesky Y chromosones and females don't. Gender is very much a biological constrct. Gender ROLES are however entirely built by society. Gender and sex are synonumous. What defines masculinity and femininity are howeer built up by society. That does not however change the fact, that a man is aman and a woman is a woman. No matter how much a man wish he was a woman, he will ALWAYS have that Y chromosone.

I TOTALLY see the need for 0.3% of the population to be represented in DAI.... NOT.

Oh darling, how you give me such heart palpitations!

So you actually do realize you're privaleged! (even if you're being dismissive of it by not acknowledging all of the great political, economic, social, and heck! even cosmetic perks you get and instead focusing on the tiny expense of being called out on it. Oh no, how inconvenient!) I suggest you do some more reseach on that matter since your ignorance is still gushing.

I'm not your darling and you might want to get your heart checked. Doesn't hurt to be extra careful, it sounds like it's rather weak. All your post does is prove my point - that it's ok if "tolerant" defenders attack privileged individuals such as myself and not the way around. As long as there's a disparity such as this there will never be equality. I'm doing you a favor, really. I know very well that I am "privaleged" by being a white straight male (which you didn't know to begin with) but I didn't choose any of that and I don't deserve to be labeled by the likes of you. You are making an awful lot of assumptions about me, most of which happen to be false and I see that "educating" me gives you a great deal of satisfaction. Well, I won't ruin your sense of accomplishment, I don't want to be that guy. Lastly, unless you are one of the aforementioned minorities you are no more informed about the struggles that one has to go through than myself. If you are one - you are a hypocrite because you are asking for understanding and respect from me while not offering me any.

François-Timoléon de Choisy (1644-1724), French author; transgender woman

Chevalier d'Eon (1728–1810), French diplomat, knight, and spy; transgender man

Albert Cashier (1843-1915), notable Union soldier; transgender man

Lili Elbe (1882–1931), transgender woman and one of the first identifiable recipients of male to female sex reassignment surgery

Alan L. Hart (1890-1962), American physician, radiologist, tuberculosis researcher, writer and novelist; transgender man

So where exactly is this rule that transgender people can only exist in the twenty-first century and beyond?

You can be born with a Y chromosome and have female "parts", and vice versa.
Gender is NOT the same as sex.

Wasn't she just posing as a man to get her work published?

Sex and gender are used interchangeably IRL.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. NO. No. No. No. Nononononononononononono.
A lot of people THINK that, but it is COMPLETELY untrue.

Sex = male/female/intersex [sex in itself is unclear, as you can be born with male "parts" but have XX chromosomes, leaving the definition unclear to some; so rather, sex refers to your assigned sex, the one given to you at birth]

Gender = what you identify as [male, female, agender, pangender, third gender, etc.]

Silfren wrote...

Regardless, it is inaccurate to do so.  And plenty of people DO recognize this and make a distinction between the two.

Thank you!

Wow pesudo science strikes again. What utter hack would argue that sex is assigned, oh wait, this is tumblr like craziness all over again.

Sex isn't assigned, it's determined by genetics. Even XX syndrome in men results in male characteristics, regardless of medical issues surrounding them, it's not assigned at birth for **** sake, it's a genetic abnormality.

What gender you identify with, I honestly don't care it has no baring on me.

Uhm yes. Yes it is. Being intersexual is a genetic anomaly in the human race, that makes it impossible to determine the gender of the person. They are, as the name says, intersexual. The anomaly consist of a person  being born with the XXY chromosone combination. THAT is what makes it impossible to determine their gender, because they belong to both.

This. If you're going to represent transexuals, you'd better not make the chraracter(s) in question just so you can say your product has them.

As long as any transgender character is interesting enough to keep me immersed in the world, then I don't particular care if they are transgender or not.

Indeed, such entitlement over an entertainment product.

The SJWs/Tumblr crowd embody "first world problems" to a T.

People get so heated over simple requests, lol. If you don't care, I see no point in voicing your apathy to the world.

Anyways, I hope that transgenders are included in NPCs.

There should be transsexual cheerleaders in a game. That would amuse me.

There doesn't need to be a "point" any more than there needs to be a "point" every time they include a cisgendered character.

Serendipity was the best love interest in DA2 and I demand that anyone calling her a 'joke character' draw their sword and face me in single combat.
