YES! I asked this years ago (well, not really, but shortly after it was released, I think :-P) and I don't recall anyone reporting back that they definitely heard it too. You just made my evening! :D

Yes, it plays in the background of the sounds, slowed down.

This also happens in the War Room, in-game.

Similar uses of music happen throughout ME3.

There are MANY themes subtly playing in scenes in ME3.

The Illusive Mans theme is playing in Hueta memorial, for example.

It's always in the War Room and a lot of other places in the game. The theme is called "Vigil" FYI

Also notice a couple of times there's ME1 combat music, like on the Disable Turian Bomb mission and when you meet with TIM on Mars the track "Saren" plays briefly before he appears, not to mention TIM's theme from ME2 is there just about every time you argue with him.

I don't know what theme this is exactly, but it's definitely not an ambient mix of Illusive Man's Theme.

Pretty sure that a slow, ambient version of Uncharted Worlds (Galaxy Map music) plays during the ME3 weapon selection screen.

Yeah, I thought the reuse of ME1 music was a very cool thing in this game. Also, I believe when you meet Kaidan/Ashley in ME2 "Vigil" plays then too.

You can hear the Noveria theme on the Embassies level of the Citadel.

You're right. This theme can also be heard faintly at docking bay D24.

Yes, it is. It's incredibly subtle and can barely be heard over the humming, but it's there.

Indeed! Actually, I am amazed there is background music at all. Volume is so low that I had always thought this place had no music at all.

It's easy to miss because there's a mix of ambient noise, both the sound of people conversing in the background and the ANN reports that are more apparent. It's only more noticeable when Shepard has a conversation with one of the characters there, as this ambient sound is lower between lines.

Clips get recycled all the time in music.

Want to hear something funny? Mozart. I call him "the great recycler." He wrote over 1800 compositions. Do you think he wasn't going to repeat himself at least several times.

Good ears. It's considered a sort of musical 'secret' and Kotaku wrote about it a while back in an interesting little article.

ok so I loved the music in all the mass effects and didn't really notice any of this, which kind of makes me mad. is there any way to adjust the audio settings of the game to make it more audible?

Not sure if there is a way. It's very faint and melded with the environmental sounds. It might be that some of our ears are trained for it? I'm a musician and kind of obsessive about noise. I'll notice when guitars are slightly out of tune and stuff like that.

so I usually have the 'music' setting of the game at 100% and everything else at like 80% so im guessing its not actually part of the music in-game, and is actually part of the environmental/sound effects. and thanks for posting this, or reposting I guess from what ajensis says
