Miranda, because Warp, Reave, Overload, and Incinerate is an absurdly good power set compared to what we get with Kaidan.

When I first saw Mirandas power list posted I thought someone was trolling, that set is too OP. Why was she not part of the team? EDI could have made way.

Miranda shouldn't even have Reave considering her reaction to Kaidan at the party. "I can reave now!" Just the devs once again giving her powers that aren't hers.

I agree with this. Especially because she has Warp too. But on the stroy side of things, I would have liked to have seen HOW Kaidan learned Reave. It seems like a very...dark ability. Probably something that happened in the two years we were gone?

And to Streetmagic: That's my probm with Grunt. The characterization doesn't come from him, it comes from others talking about him. But I know a useless debate when I see one, so I'll just agree to disagree on that front.

I never understood why Miranda wasn't in the main squad she was one of the more popular characters for ME2 and there should have been a Krogan on board.

No,.. that's a fair complaint. Either way, I think these were all part of his character arc, besides the teenager stuff (and a very interesting part of Krogans to me.. I wish it got explored again in ME3).

Well, to me anyway, storywise it wouldn't make sense for ANY of the aliens to be on board with the exception of Liara (even though I would rather she be sent elsewhere).

Garrus tells you that th Hieracrchy sees him as the expert on Reapers. Why are they letting him fly around?
Tali is an "Admiral" of the Quarian people
Wrex is running the Krogan show and Grunt is one of his best generals
Mordin is working to cure the Genophage..then dies..or not

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying I wanted a game devoid of an alien crew, but it just seems like there would be more pressing matters for such important people in their societies.

And back to Street: I agree the that the insight into Krogan society was cool, but the middle of a Reaper war wouldn't have been the best time for the history lesson. Although, part of me would have actually been cool with Grunt joining Cloneshep in the DLC for that mission, just so I would get the satisfaction of seeing Grunt V Wrex

It would have fit right in. Okeer's motive was the opposite of Wrex. His goal was to offer the "greatest insult" to the Genophage: To ignore it. Grunt was meant to resist and endure. Neither those two or the shaman cared about coddling the weak. Wrex was different. He saw a future in building up numbers, not strength - and coddling the weak, if necessary. These were two different philosophies, but Wrex's take just sort of drowned everything out like nothing in ME2 happened. I like both, don't get me wrong. It just would have been cool playing around with both ideas.

I'm fine with the roster we had. In fact, if we had to make changes, I'd actually remove EDI, a completely superfluous (from a both story and gameplay standpoint) squadmate that I never ever used. Keep it as the ship's AI, that fits much much better. I feel like I should also note that I almost always send Kaidan/Ashley off to Hackett's command as well...

Or better yet, make EDI the DLC squadmate, and put Javik, the actually important squadmate, in the main game.

Aside from that, I'd just make Grunt's death unavoidable. I like Grunt a lot, but I think the scene is much more powerful that way, and the choice actually would be difficult: saving an entire species from extinction is all well and good... but can you really doom your brogan tank baby like that? Maybe this could also be done to a couple other squad mates too, like Zaeed, Miranda, or Samara. Though in their cases, it would be less about fitting thematically and more about making their reasons for not joining you less contrived. It would do that for Grunt too.

The only bad part there is that we wouldn't get the awesomeness that is Grunt in the Citadel DLC. But I honestly think that would be worth it.

Javik was in the main game at first. He only became DLC because they had to scrap a lot of ideas with Thessia, which he was integrated with.

I guess this would also require rewriting the assault on Cronos station, as it necessitates a character that actually knows how to get around the facility, which none of Shepard's other crew can do. Miranda would be the only other person who could potentially help with this, but if she's dead, then there's no one. I guess if EDI was installed on Shepard's hardsuit so that the omnitool could do some extra technovoodoo, but I dunno. Can't imagine the Normandy being able to do any kind of proper scanning of the station so that Shepard could be guided while there's a big space battle going on. I guess any kind of handwavium could be used here, but I think having the Cerberus mech actually coming along for this mission fits better.

EDI was pretty helpful for being stuck on the Normandy back in ME2 (maybe even more useful?). I mean she was able to hack into the Collector Ship while fighting them off, and knew more and was able to access more tech than any of the ground team in most situations. I mean before she just kinda said 'open sesame' in binary and the doors opened, now she has to walk up to them and physically do it.

I miss chess pawn EDI.

I see what you mean, but by that token, it would have been INFINITELY better to have Okeer live instead of sacrificing himself for Grunt. That would have been a situation for the ages; to see Okeer and Wrex have it out over the fate of the Krogan, with the "winner" (whoever Shepard chose to side with) getting Grunt.

It turns on Okeer's head. Grunt says Okeer doesn't matter. That if Okeer was so strong, then he would not have needed him.

Miranda and Thane. Also Legion. And Grunt.

Oh you know what. Every single Mass Effect 2 character should have come back. Best characters, best game, best atmosphere. If ME3 had more "Mass effect 2ness" in it, it wouldn't have sucked the D so hard.

But If I had to choose one. Miss Lawson.

I would have also liked Edi to not have a body, I liked that she kinda was the soul of the Normandy.

I would have liked to have the oppurtunity to throw EDI and Liara out of the air lock.

Miranda, the current roster really is bland apart from Javik, it needed someone to Miranda as the outsider, becoming the Jack of the ME3 roster. Plus if she was a companion maybe she would have got the decent role in the Cerberus arc she should have had.

If i had a free choice of a 2nd it would probably be Kasumi but given she's DLC i'd probably have to say grunt to add the krogan factor to the squad

I think they got the default squad right. The old cast from ME1 needed to return.

That being said I think what Bioware should have done is had the end run involve another suicide mission, and for that your entire surviving squad from all three games would join for the final mission.

I personally don't feel the balance was right, there should have been at least one representative of the ME2 exclusives. Personally as someone who preferred ME2's squad i was left with little enjoyment from the squad outside of the DLC character Javik.

I definitely there should have been a suicide mission mechanic no matter what.

The big problem is choosing which ME2 exclusive to roll with, and how to substitute this character should he/she die in the suicide mission. All in all I think Miranda is the only one that really ever had a place coming back as a proper squadmate, as her plot was the most important among the ME2 exclusive group, other than Legion and Mordin's (too bad one is doomed and the other is dead or in hiding), and Shepard was directly involved with its resolution.

It wouldn't matter if anyone was plot important or not or how well justified an idea could be. They simply wanted to take a dump on ME2 exclusives. To do it so thoroughly across the board out of 10 characters tells me nothing else. It's like they lived under the impression that everyone hated that game and they needed to tap into ME1 nostalgia to be successful.

Besides, Miranda and Jacob are part of the "default" playthrough survivors - Miranda is screwed though, I think.. since she doesn't have loyalty and I think she'll die that way. And even if you do have her loyalty, they go out of their way to make you keep her alive. More failpoints than usual. She's just meant to die.

The only real "plot" they want to work with is that Shepard has a lot of dead friends on his mind, ends up getting PTSD, and spends the third game building an elaborate device he commits suicide in, so he can join his dead friends.

I was satisfied with the return of the ME 1 squad, especially Ashley Williams. If I had to switch someone in order to get a ME 2 character, EDI would be my #1 candidate. I wasn't that fond of ME 2 cast, except for 2 or 3 exceptions.

I just realized I never said who I would want back. I'm going to go with Miranda and either Jacob or Jack. Mostly because I wanted to see some decent counterpoints to the concerns the VS had to Cerberus. Miranda would have been a good choice based on her position in the organization, and Jacob for his ties to the Alliance.
I would have traded Lift Grenade for either Throw, Slam or Shockwave.

One thing I find interesting is the large amount of complaining about having new characters in the game, because at the beginning of ME2, all of those characters were new too. EDI I can understand, but James, I feel made a good addition because of his relative youth, someone who hadn't been there, and done that so to speak, though I would have preferred if he were enlisted instead of an officer (same for Ashley).

I also wish the VS joined up earlier in the game, because ...what was the point of having them out of the game for that long? And whoever your ME2 LI was should have found a reason to join you...even Thane. He might not have been able to be taken on missions, but then again neither could Cortez or Traynor, and the life support room was empty anyway.

Jack and...Miranda? Hard to say, I disliked most of the ME2 crew.

Kal'Reegar would've been great too. Why only have one Quarian on board?:D

I always wondered what male Quarians looked like under those masks...

Only Miranda has enough plot relevance for me to miss her presence in ME3, especially given Cerberus somehow becoming more important than they were in ME2. Jack, like most ME2 squadmates, is irrelevant outside her(in my opinion well-done) character arc. Story-based side missions were enough for them.
