The big problem is choosing which ME2 exclusive to roll with, and how to substitute this character should he/she die in the suicide mission. All in all I think Miranda is the only one that really ever had a place coming back as a proper squadmate, as her plot was the most important among the ME2 exclusive group, other than Legion and Mordin's (too bad one is doomed and the other is dead or in hiding), and Shepard was directly involved with its resolution.

Plus, I think Miranda is one of the harder squadmates to kill off in the suicide mission. I might be wrong here but I think the only time you can kill her off is if she's unloyal and you send her as the escort.

On my first playthrough of ME2 everyone died, even Miranda and i brought her with me to kill the Human Reaper... so i guess there's all different kinds of endings you can have.

Miranda can only die if she's unloyal and the hold the line score is too low, or she's brought to the final boss. She can't be carried off by the swarms or chosen as a tech or escort. She'll survive getting shot as fire team leader, even if unloyal. She can't die at all if loyal.

Miranda. She really grew on me.
Legion.
And I wish the dlc characters were full fleshed out teammates

Story-wise: Miranda, I guess (at least on Cronos station)
Gameplay-wise: Morinth (her dominate power was fun)

I always wanted to see Shiala (the green Asari commando) in action. I thought the long-term after-effects of her Thorium experience might give her a unique set of abilities to play with.

Is the Leviathan dominate any different? Never used either.

Oh you just want Morinth specifically. Yeah, I liked playing with her too. Although I kind of wished she never tried to act like Samara.

Bioware obviously didn't put much effort into the character (that's why I usually save Samara...at least she has some good scenes), but I thought that Morinth had huge potential to be a fantastic character.

I liked the actress (same as Sigrun from DA). Even sexier voice than Courtenay Taylor. =]

Characters with no excuse for not joining you...

Zaeed: Obviously doesn't want to reacquire command of the Blue Suns, and all he does is hang out with the refugees.

Grunt: If you choose to save the Rachni Queen/Reaper-made Breeder, Arlack Company (in the words written on the War Assets computer) gets wiped out, hence saving the Queen should give you Grunt for a squadmate...

uhh... help, anyone?

Samara has the flimsiest excuse imo. She's going to go...fight...somewhere else...(some asari colony iirc).

Yeah, the only one who has a decent excuse is Jack. I hate to say it, since I romance her, but I'm at least able to rationalize that Shepard and Jack are looking out for those kid's interests. There's a sensible story I can build out of all of it.

Perhaps Jacob too. But I don't care about him or his skillset much.

I suppose Tali, Liara and Garrus would have had the best excuses ^_^

Garrus is some high ranking military advisor. Tali is an Admiral. Liara is the Shadow Broker.

But they have big fanbases. Which is integral to the story.

Actually, not sure about Tali there. I doubt her fanbase is that much larger than Miranda's.

Perhaps not by a huge margin, but I wouldn't be surprised if Tali's was still larger.

A bunch of Asari (ones who took an oath of celibacy) would be better teachers of those brats.

I remember one of the ME2 developers saying that Miranda was the most used squadmate in ME2...I don't really know why they "sidelined" her (maybe Yvonne Strahovski was busy?). And as far as we know Tali wasn't supposed to be a squadmember at first (I usually skip her recruitment in ME2, so I wouldn't have cared).

I've pointed out my own theory lately on why they sidelined her. They're obsessed with death. They wanted to write a story revolving around all of these people dying or were going to die. The base story is built off the worst possible playthrough of ME2. That's what all of those forced dreams are for (not just the kid). Even when you did everything right, and people live, they still want to insist on themes revolving around death and pessimism. Not victory, confidence, or triumph.

Of course, they created content to account for ME2 squad living, but it never shapes the tone of the games. It behaves in a way as if death surrounds Shepard everywhere, and in the end, Shepard is ready to finally die too.

Goodness those dreams are annoying if everyone made it through the Suicide mission. All I hear is Ashley and Mordin, saying the same things over and over again.
