Why does the N7 Shadow have a Sniper Rifle bonus?

It would have been better if she had a Shotgun bonus 6b of Tactical Cloak. I feel like it would have been natural for her, since she specializes in melee.

Yeah idk. I don't take rank 6 in tactical cloak anyway unless I'm sniping with her, so whatever.

Perhaps mechanically. But thematically you don't really think of a shotgun as a stealthy assassins weapon. As a concept, shoot at long range, slice at close range, is fine. Real issue is that there are mods on shotguns that increase melee damage and that is silly. If you wanted those in the game they should change the melee attack like Batarian gauntlet.

However that is the one infiltrator which has a genuine reason to use bonus power, so its no big deal.

Totally in agreement here. I had a similar thought when I first started playing with her. Sniper on her just feels 'unnatural'.
I'd take the bonus power even if she had a shotgun bonus.

Incidentally that's perhaps her better build...

She's a sniper rifle infiltrator, just like most other infiltrators. There's no reason not to take a sniper on this character. The sniper rifle bonus suits her perfectly, that's by far the most effective all round build for her, not melee. The krogan warlord is the only character in the game who truly specialises in melee. She's very well rounded, doesn't just specialise in melee, that's just a supplementary thing for her, yes she has great melee, but then again she also has tactical cloak and +25% sniper damage. For me, she has always been about weapon damage all the way. She's an infiltrator.

I'd trade the Sniper Damage for Melee Damage.

Seriously, when was the last time you saw someone take a high grade sword to someone's throat and see them only "stagger" as if hit by a bat in the face?

Make her heavy melee something to be feared instead of slightly annoyed by.

I actually would have made it a pistol bonus, personally.

Kook. That is an opinion and to top it off it's your opinion. Stop projecting it as fact.

IMO it would make her a bit OP. 20-25% multiplicative bonus to shooty without any additional casting, that can also carry a 50% (multiplicative!) melee attachment....

What if her TC 6b was additional bonus melee damage though?

Because she uses the default variant of Tactical Cloak, which is easier to implement than an altered variant, which at the time there were none of. Ghost was the first infiltrator to have a non-sniper weapon bonus, followed by Huntress and AIU.

I frankly find using a shotgun on her completely redundant. The only reason I do is the omni-blade provides the most powerful melee boost available. Shotguns are most effective in close range. In close range a melee focused build should be using melee. Your weapon should be something that allows for effective combat at ranges much further than your melee will allow safely.

When Earth DLC was new, I thought the N7 Piranha was designed to be for her, actually.

Her melee leaves her vunerable. At least for me it is hit and run with SS that is designed to OHK 2 enemies with bonus power and I am not going to be hanging around long enough out of cloak to use a shotgun - or any weapon really except the sword to finish off an enemy.

I take the Talon with AP in case a Guardian turns on me and for shooting bosses at mid range.
If I was going to use weapons as a primary source of damage I would probably go wth the standard sniper build

She is teamed after a combo of a phantom and nemesis, snipers make sense from that stand point, and as Token said, there were no tac cloak variations at the time, I've run many builds on her and of the two I come back to, the cqb specialist is higher risk/ higher reward, but she also makes an excellentsniper because any enemy who thinks they can sneak up on her have a habit of losing their heads

She would be a great candidate for a pistol bonus infiltrator .
Would certainly give me cause to consider a different build to the double SS bonus power set up.

I'd love to see that type of infiltrator with a Paladin, Executioner or Arc Pistol.

Charge Arc Pistol.. cloak.. release shot.. Shadow Strike or Electric Slash.  Ohh yeah baby..

Perhaps. Yet shotguns like Wraith, Claymore, Crusader, Venom, GPS, Graal - even Disciple - are perfectly capable at mid-to-long range. Wait, that's more than half of the shotguns!
