They're monsters, plain and simple. I'd rather keep them that way.
I have to agree.
Some things are better off in black and white. Even if darkspawn could empathize, they spread decay wherever they go.
Give a demon empathy, and it fails to be a demon any longer (someone will ask where I got that idea from and whether I can prove it, which, pffft.)
Could either of these things be useful allies? Sure, if you were able to make a bargain worth the risk in order to take advantage of their unique abilities.
But the Bioware companion system sort of relies on the player's interest in forming a relationship with each companion, or at least taking a deeper look into their unique point of view. I'm not really interested in either of those.
I doubt the writers would take it there, though. It's been done to death in Mass Effect.

Heck if he looked like a black death doctor that would be the coolest thing.

Your right, we don't need a special snowflake character that shows zero character development past the first few novels.

Visually speaking it would be interesting to have a mage Darkspawn on your team. He could have his entire body covered and a mask with something to filter the air he exhales so no one gets sick like a reverse black death doctor.
Heck if he looked like a black death doctor that would be the coolest thing.
+1 to a magic wielding Darkspawn companion that can summon children of the Mother to his side in combat.

Don't you have to ingest darkspawn fluid to get tainted? Bioware could easily remedy this by making the darkspawn ally a ranged fighter, so that no one would be standing near him to get blood in their mouth, or put him in a suitably absorbent cloth armor so that when cut his blood is sopped into the fabric and doesn't go flying.DinoSteve wrote...
yea sure lets have a darkspawn in the party and everyone can become tainted and lets have a demon too the Inquisition will be super successful that way.
Even better lets have Darkspawn and demon LIs.
Can you imagine the rule 34?

Desire demons are pretty much both and none of the genders at the same time.
OP, I think Cole is the closest BW could come to making your wish come true.

The only way I could see a Darkspawn as a companion is that you sided with the Architect and one of his guys joined the Inquisitor.
I did side with the architect. Darkspawn drinking warden blood is only fair, we did it, and I thought maybe it could further peace-but I heard that was wrong? I heard that Hawke kills the architect

People should stop drinking blood, unless you're a vampire.

Yes the Taint is deadly, but we do have magic artifacts, spells and training that could prevent such a companion from poisoning everything. We are only talking about (at most) five or six Awakened, if Agents, or one, if a companion, I think it would be well within the realm of established lore for such allies to avoid the danger of spreading the Taint.
I mean magic can sunder the Veil, as seen in the DA:I info; it can 'phase' people and places into other realms of existance (bringing dwarves, and golems into the Fade. The 'phases' of the Golems of Armorak (sp?) DLC); magic can give a golem free will; and it allowed for the Grey Wardens to manipulate the Taint to their uses (Warden's Keep DLC).
Why would magic, if it can do all of those things, be unable to affect a small group of Darkspawn so that their Taint doesn't corrupt the land and people around them?
Really, the events of Awakening have shown just how dynamic the Lore is in regards to the Darkspawn.
