Which one do you mean? SoU? I found it better than the OC. Hordes of the Underdark is the masterpiece though. And Deekin is just pure love.
What level was your character at the end of the game?

It's also the worst of the three official campaigns. And there are many custom campaigns far better than the official ones (like Aielund, Hex Coda, Sanctum of the Archmage, Swordflight, A Dance With Rogues, Prophet, etc).
Don't you think most of those are too different to compare to the OC?
As for all of those being better than HotU, I'm not sure I can agree either... I've only dabbled with SotA and haven't played Swordflight, though.
By the way, a couple days ago I actually started recounting the OC (similar in style to how I did HotU - sort of a veteran read), but I haven't posted anything yet. Not sure if I should, I criticize maybe too much! (I don't dislike it, but there are some things that really rub me the wrong way...)

Not in terms of overall quality. If we're doing more direct comparisons, then I suppose I'm seeing two potential issues:
1, the combat in Hex Coda is intentionally a joke, which theoretically is not the case in most RPG campaigns. On the flip side, combat in all of the official campaigns is unintentionally a joke (except for maybe a few specific spots for the average player). And sure, you could clearly argue that you play for the story and don't care about the combat...but then you can't criticize Hex Coda's combat.
2, A Dance With Rogues is very rogue specific and not a general RPG campaign. So it's obviously not going to work if you don't want to play a rogue-type character.
As for all of those being better than HotU, I'm not sure I can agree either... I've only dabbled with SotA and haven't played Swordflight, though.
It's possible that simply being far more familiar with HotU and having first played it so long ago makes the other stuff seem cooler...but I'm still very familiar with ME2, played it a long time ago, and it's still my favorite game ever.
Aside from the combat/mechanics, HotU certainly isn't bad (it's quite good, in fact)...but I still found the other stuff more interesting/fun.
By the way, a couple days ago I actually started recounting the OC
Oh god. Run while you still can. At a minimum the sheer length/tedium is bad to playthrough again (though at least it wasn't anywhere close to being as bad as Dragon Age: Origins).
Just to be perfectly clear, I think it's still a decent campaign overall and better than many other games...it just has a lot of issues.
(I don't dislike it, but there are some things that really rub me the wrong way...)
Curious as to what those are (don't disagree, but we may have very different things that we're thinking of).
I also think your time would be better served recounting more community mods (and can do a short mod like Snickersnak! or Snow Hunt if you want a break from longer campaigns or do something very unusual like Siege of the Heavens) -- walkthroughs/playthroughs already exist galore for the original campaign.

I find combat in the oc to be fairly well balanced up until the point you start getting the munchkin gear... the strength belts, perma haste, greater swordsman's belt, and such. Then it's not much of a game anymore.

I liked the OC.
It wasn't the kind of a campaign that left me speechless and mumble "Whew, what an adventure", but I think it presented a setting that was very climatic and involving. Now, I'm not talking about the storyline, but rather the environment. There was something truly magical about the Jhareg castle and the nearby woods. I think that OC is, in this regard, better than SoU which seemed rushed to me (though I liked it nevertheless).

Castle Jhareg was one of the best points of the campaign, yes. The OC definitely had some high points like that.

16-18 is typical if you play solo. If you bring a henchmen then expect 14-16 most likely.
That sounds about right. My first time beating the OC was with a Lawful Evil Human Fighter. I chatted with the henchmen here and there, but I never actually took one along; I was solo all the way. And that Fighter was Level 17 when she finally took down Morag.
(One of these days, I should go through the final chapter with several different characters of various Races and Classes, and one for each of the nine Alignments, because Haedraline's endgame speech varies depending on the character. My Fighter got Haedraline's "Know that I have marked well your evil nature..." speech. Those would make for a pretty nice series of YouTube videos.

I beat the OC once and forget what level I finished. I know I did it by first doing the SoU OC then putting that character into the OC. Never finished the HotU OC.

Since you mention it, I have a cheaty module which lets you level a character up as high as Level 40, gives you as much Gold as you want and lets you buy whatever gear you need from about twenty different stores. You can, of course, Save the character to your local vault, run another module and load that character right into it. I wonder how furiously a geared-up, max-Level character could plow through the final chapter of the OC. I could make those YouTube videos in record time! ![]()

You should try HotU at least once. It is widely regarded as the best of the OCs.

You would plow through it quickly, but not quite as fast as you might think. The OC attempts to adjust to your level and gear. For example, in the Peninsula District you will find mostly gang leaders, and lots of them, and the ones who aren't gang leaders will be the half-orc escaped prisoners. At least, this is what I encountered the one time I tried playing the OC after SoU. While still in Chapter 1, I got bored and started a new character.

Chapter 1 isn't quite so boring if you face those same foes with a low level character. ![]()

I know. All the many other times that I have played the OC, I started at level 1 like you're supposed to and had a good time. I am one of the few who actually like the OC.

Actually, I was talking about using a level 3 PC (from the prelude) against the CR:12ish mobs that you described. The side effects are interesting, if not exactly amusing. But, this is all a bit OT.

I would though I would prefer a updated version with fixes at least for HotU.
Also would have to decide what character classes to use.
