Villains don't always lie. They just view things differently. He gave you three choices. If you chose any one of them, the war ended. If you refused them, everyone died. In the original ending you couldn't refuse. You had to choose. Hence, the star child wasn't lying.

Well, in the original you could just stand there and let the Reapers blow up the Crucible. No awesome Refuse soeech, though.

I didn't know that. Does it still kick in the time capsule stuff or is that jus the EC?

Time capsule was EC exclusive. In the original you just get a mission failure screen saying the Reapers destroyed it.

Weird. So they're actively working on destroying it while also giving options for destroying them?

They can still destroy it in the EC if you go up a path and turn around. This gets into just what exactly is the Catalyst programmed to do. Is it obligated to proceed with its solution until a new one is presented?

You say that like it's wrong for it to want organics and synthetics to coexist

It doesn't hurt to try, but I still want a sense of continuity and danger. I didn't buy Mass Effect to act like Gandhi. As nice as it is in the real world to aspire to that, it holds no potential for games. There's a time to be juvenile and aggressive - and this is it.

Games ought to be about blowing stuff up? Or is this ME-specific?

I try not to stare to far into the plot singularity of the ending. Not even the speediest handwaves and blog posts can eject you out past the horizon once you fall through it.

There's a difference between the Reapers and the Catalyst, apparently. They didn't get the memo that the Crucible changed things.

ME Specific. Some games you can chop stuff up, of course. Or crush toadstool heads.

If you can tell me how to make "peace" an interesting game mechanic though, I'm all for it. The closest I know  like that are focused on building (mostly sims). I doubt many want to see ME go in that direction, but I've been wrong before.

Making peace worked at Rannoch, didn't it?

What happened there? I haven't played  that option in awhile. I prefer putting bullets into Legion. It coincides with the whole blue collar "explosion" thing with the Destroy ending too.
