Missile double Praetorian waves (5 & 8, 6 & 10 after the objective has been completed) and, if possible, only play them on non-DLC maps.

edit: Also, restart your PS3 every few games, especially if you get Goddess or HGhost.

Yes
Don't use any missiles till at least w6 its the waves that have to crabs that stress your system. Only use missiles on w6 is the base objectives take longer than 3 minutes to do. Or to change the w6 target from crab to something else. w8missile all crabs or remove then all under 3 minute mark. W8 is most likely to crash your ps3. Use spare missiles on w10 to remove crabs if objective lingers. Otherwise wait till done and then missile the crabs.

Play only on orginal maps if you want to play collectors multiple times without reboot, otherwise expect to reboot a few games later. Avoid hazard ghost and giant at all cost. London and Goddess can be bad but you can still play a whole game before a mandatory reboot.
Remember crabs have a spwan cap on gold of 3 crabs on w3 & w5 and 6 crabson w6, w8, w10. Abominations can deplete the spawn budget fast on waves they appear.
Sorry for typos, I sent it from my phone.

I had same problem months ago.
So i did the long way.
Unistalled the game and the dlc's. Not the save and gameprogress files.
Then installed all again and works like trains toilet.

I did this too and things seem slightly smoother but I've still had a few hangs/crashes.  I'm also not so sure it's simply collectors or collector crabs since I've had it hang at other times.  Seems to me that if things get very intense on-screen (e.g., lots of fire/tech/biotic explosions at the same time) it's more likely to happen.
