My impression of the Tevinter in past titles was not grand.
They were cast as the typical bad guys that never had good intentions, and they
all wore the lamest colorful fur robes in DAO; not very fitting for a nation
that consists historically of the most powerful blood mages.

After reading The World of Thedas, I'm entirely fascinated
in Tevinter.

From their Magocracy political system, to their magic
dominated social classes where the elite must trace their ancestry to the
original Dreamers (Tevinter magisters who were said to communicate with the
Old Gods in the Fade), I find the Tevinter Imperium to be one of the most interesting
nations in Thedas.

You might imagine a magic ruled nation to consist of unpretentious
mages, only vying to increase their own power and not directing efforts in frivolous
pursuits, however the Tevinter have some badass apparel designs.

http://dragonage.wik...=Altus_mage.jpg
- Atlus Mage (Atlus are the highest magical class in Tevinter social structure,
these mages are descendants of the original Dreamers)

http://dragonage.wik...er_garments.jpg
- "Magic rules the Imperium, and their clothing reflects this. Dark robes,
hoods, and light armor are commonplace in Tevinter. Some of it is practical,
allowing the movement necessary to cast spells while protecting from the odd
blade edge. Still, Tevinter nobles are not above the impractical, sharing some
of the Orlesian love for fabric volume, if not color." - The World of
Thedas: Volume 1

- Tevinter mage & sword

Thus I find the way they've been portrayed in past games unfortunate,
which brings me to the question asked in the topic title; Am I the only one hoping
to see more Tevinter in DAI? Whether that's interaction with Tevinter NPC's,
Tevinter style gear, or a Tevinter companion.

You are not. The thought of spending a big chunk of the game in Orlais (or some other region), as opposed to Tevinter, would be a huge letdown for me.

I think that DA:I focuses more on the southern and central part of Thedas : Orlaisn Ferelden, maybe Nevarra and The Free Marches.

I would prefer if they've kept Tevinter, Antiva and all the other northern ones for the next instalement. That way they would be better fleshed out and we will spend more time there.

I think we might go to Tevinter in the next one. I've got a feeling there's a Qunari invasion coming soon.

What's with the goth look? Is there really no other way to illustrate an "evil" character?

Indeed.
Throw in all the insane fanatics of DA and let them destroy each other.
Send in the Chantry as well and Thedas will be transformed into Utopia.

No you're not the only one and we will be most likely going to Tevinter since as angrywolves and I have pointed out in other threads Darrah himself pretty much confirm Tevinter in the Rev3games interview from pax by Adam Sesslar.

AS
How are you trying to set it up that you can bring in new players, that haven't played origins or 2.

MD
Yeah we are definitely trying to make it used as an introduction, one of the ways that do do that is the events that open the game is a giant explosion tearing open the sky.

Demons are pouring out, threatening the world, that's pretty easy thing to introduce new players to, demons are bad and you should probably stop them.

AS
Evil coming, stop evil

MD
Evil coming, stop evil.

Then we can actually establish the politics more gradually, opposed to droping you in Templars, Tevinter and giving you all of the lore upfront. We can actually drip feed it, give it to you at a more reasonable pace.

m.youtube.com/watch

Start from the 6:00 ish and watch from there, this would be the third confirmed nation besides Fereldan and Orliais, and the hinted at Neverra and the Free Marches which would bring the total to 5 nations so far, not sure how likely it is that we get to many more than that.

@Spectre

I don't think that he was referring to the place as in "you'll be going there", but more like " we'll explain the lore regarding it and all other things in small doses so that people new to the franchise won't fell overwhelmed by it".

EDIT

I don't think that the interview is a good proof of Tevinter's implications. There are other things that are better suited for this, like the presence of the venatori and this :

Image IPB

Notice that under the "DEMONS" section there's the "TEVINTER" section ,with the guy with a flay and what seems to be a mage on a giant scorpion.

While I am certain that Tevinter will be implicated in the game, I doubt that we'll actually go there, but I believe that it will come to us in the form of people from there, jus as in past games.

If we saw something of Tevinter beyond it being a cautionary dystopia, maybe. DA2 seemed to make a point of rendering it as boring and uninteresting as possible.

The last I read was that the areas outside of Ferelden that we can expect to see are the Free Marches and Orlais. Tevinter is far to the north--if the Inquisition storyline is a multigame storyline, then might we see Tevinter in a later installment?

To answer the OP's question: aside from Val Royeaux, Tevinter is #1 on my list of places in Thedas to explore.

Although you make a good point, that doesn't rule anything out given the context of how his interview went given that he said we'll introduce the politics first and gradually give you the lore over the course of the game.

Also he's been pretty consistent in saying we'll going to different nations and effecting them on a supposedly grand scale and Laidlaw mentioned that the new persuasion system involves talking to nobility and everything that goes with it.

MD
This is a game of Nations, so we can't restrict you to a single providence.

You lead the inquisition, a powerful organization that is the deciding factor in the balance of power of the mage and Templars and the fates of nations.

If anything what you posted gives more evidence that we will be going there when combined with everything else they've been saying, and in the lines of what he said in the interview, also one of the maps they showed off before went up past Orliais a fair amount including Nevrra so my point remains unaffected so far the nation total is 5.

Nope!  I've wanted to see Tevinter for a while.  Bioware seems to be moving somewhat away from the classiication of Tevinter as the personification of all that stand for evil in Thedas, and I'm glad, because that's not the reality of any nation, and Tevinter-as-the-birthplace-of-mustache-twirling-villains is really, really tiresome.

I'm just saying that the interview doesn't seem to be a good proof for the implication of Tevinter in DA:I. That photo I provided seems to scream TEVINTER louder than a few words of Mr. Darrah than can be interpreted in multiple ways.

I don't want to see Tevinter in this. I want a whole game to explore the larger countries I am already peeved that Orlais have to share its game with Fereldan and maybe other countries even if I could by Orlais-Neverra (I am bored of Fereldan).

The more countries we go to the less we get to see of that country and the smaller that country feels.

@ whogotsalami (hmmmm, yami)

The implications would be pretty huge. Altus mages are descendants of the magisters and dreamers who spoke to the Old Gods.

You wouldn't exactly need to be an Altus Mage to wear them. Same as with the Grey Warden armor for Hawke.

Sorry. I missunderstood your statement and thought you wanted to be an altus mage. I think I need some cold water on my face to wake up.

Tevinter is both fascinating and scary, so yes, I would love to see more of it. I'm not sure we will get the chance to go there in DAI, though. Sounds like Orlaise will be the main focus.
