You know how Vigil traps Shepard and the Mako with his gold force field wall things? Why didn't he do that to Saren to keep him from going through the Conduit?

Saren probably would have "hunted" him down and destroyed him to remove the barrier. Vigil was programmed to help stop the reapers (basically) so he'd try to self preserve when he "sensed the taint of indoctrination" from Saren

I think he knew that Saren and his forces would've found a way to get out. By trapping Shepard and his crew, he was able to give the only people who COULD help - the information they needed TO help.
