Kaiden pissed me off at how boring he was (and how he sounded like a fricken dweeb). But Jacob seems a little more interesting. He is probably one of my favorite characters so far, yet BioWare seems to be giving him the shaft.

He looks like a Vanguard to me.

From the way they word the characters on the squad page I would say that Jacob and SuZe are vanguards, Miranda is a sentinel, Thane is a sniper biotic variant, Samara is an adept, Tali is a engineer and Grunt is a soldier.

Did he and Miranda have relations at the end of Galaxies? If so that might have some impact on any potential Shepard/Miranda hookup, depending on how long ME2 starts after Galaxies.

I liked Kaidan. He was introspective, clever, and managed to be hardcore despite being nothing but support in combat. Hopefully, Jacob won't try to latch too hard to the 'tough guy' role.

That’s a good summary of Kaidan.

With regards to Jacob, even though I haven’t played Mass Effect Galaxy, from reading the story and its outcome I think we’ve already been given a strong insight into Jacob’s character. At his core I believe he’s a good and courageous man who’s just been spooked one too many times by dire situations. First at Eden Prime then during the time that encompasses Galaxy. I don’t believe that Jacob was very high up on the Systems Alliance command chain like Shepard was and thus as a simple soldier, albeit a biotic one, I doubt he’d be as well trained/prepared to deal with the endgame level catastrophes he’s encountered.

Such desperate situations can make a person feel small and weak, these vulnerable individuals are ripe pickings for insidious (fascist) organisations that prey on those looking for answers to make sense of their hardships and seeking power to make things “right”. Unfortunately, these organisations (Cerberus) often have differing ideas on what is just and how best to utilize power that are far from noble.

So I’m glad that he’s conflicted about Cerberus. Hopefully I can convince him of their evil intent and turn him from the “Dark Side” as it were, because I’m going to take every opportunity to crush them for what they did to Shepard and Toombs on Akuze, Kahoku and those numerous eezo “accidents” that they had a hand in (read Ascension).

Who knows what other sins they’ve committed not to mention any diabolical schemes they currently have planned in the name of “Human Supremacy”.
