RPG = Really Pointless Genre.
No one knows what qualities encompass this particular genre, and no one can really determine what the genre actually is.
If you're enjoying yourself, should it really matter to you?

I've never really been one to care about genres in any medium of entertainment. There is only two categories...
What I enjoy.
What I don't enjoy.
And I only create this category after experiencing a particular medium of entertainment. Gives me an open mind.

That's a pretty solid approach to take with any medium. Damn good call.

So Priority Earth, despite the cool things here and there, is perhaps the most dissapointing final mission in video-game history.
Eh, it wasn't even the worst/most disappointing final mission released in 2012 (that distinction goes to Assassin's Creed III).

Which Final Fantasy did you play, Hanar?
Number 13.
Though I feel bad for saying it, I really do not enjoy it. I am in the first five hours, hoping it has something more to offer.

What are you playing for? I mean, what are you expecting?
If you're expecting an open world, that won't happen.
I personally would argue the story gets better after you get out a little bit and your party grows to the whole group or most of the group.
But what mainly are you hoping for? I'll (try to) tell you if it happens.

I think what I want is the ability to be let of my leash a little bit, if you know what I mean. It feels like this game is very linear, which works for me if that involves a healthy amount of combat, but what usually happens is that I will fight a few very brief fights (which are shockingly easy for a newcomer in the series) and then there will be a very large cutscene. Also, it's a bit jarring that I am still getting instuctions on how to play the game when I am so far in. It makes me feel as if I am in the tutorial stage when I should really be getting into the meat of the game.
Overall, I either want more opportunity to explore or I want combat to have more variation, as I can literally go on auto-pilot for the majority of the game right now.

I just don't want linear and auto-attack the whole game.

You're being incredibly generous with a "few" the only decent characters in that game were Fang and The Token Black character formely known as Sazh.Mr.House wrote...

Well, do I need to strategize in combat more later on? I can deal with a linear game.

Nope, you do need to a bit in a XIII-2 but you'd be a masochist to continue playing that storyline.

People rag on Beyond: Two Souls for no gameplay but FFXIII is way worse in that regard.
