You mean literal Fem-Cloud? There's nothing intresting about her, she's a generic mary sue with a soldier background that doesn't significantly play into her character. The only reason she's in 3 games is because the sucessfully reeled in the FF7 audience with her and because she's Toriyama's personal waifu. The Mad Hanar wrote...

Plus she's voiced by Ali Hillis. That's pretty neat in my book.

For sure. I need to expand my library. Not that the 3DS is lacking in software, but I can't splurge like I used to so I gotta be picky and get games I know will last.Enigmatick wrote...

Not even able to play any newer game. No fast internet (56 K modem and super expensive) and barely any shipping option. So if you lived in the middle of nowhere you were ****ed up. PC gaming has never been evolving so slowly and being so cheap. I'm not even kidding how cheap it has become. Also well . 2k today does not equal 2k in 1998. The only people that could really afford pc gaming was the rich. That why console was really the only option for most gamer.
But I disgress. I had to say it somewhere.

I think what I want is the ability to be let of my leash a little bit, if you know what I mean. It feels like this game is very linear, which works for me if that involves a healthy amount of combat, but what usually happens is that I will fight a few very brief fights (which are shockingly easy for a newcomer in the series) and then there will be a very large cutscene. Also, it's a bit jarring that I am still getting instuctions on how to play the game when I am so far in. It makes me feel as if I am in the tutorial stage when I should really be getting into the meat of the game.
Overall, I either want more opportunity to explore or I want combat to have more variation, as I can literally go on auto-pilot for the majority of the game right now.
The first...ah, is it ten or twenty? I can't remember...but either ten or twenty are very, very linear and story-based. My advice is to soak up the story, and experiment with the battle system as much as you can. If you're planning to push through it (and I hope you are), you WILL need to get a bit more skill with it than simply auto-attack.
But, in response, your leash gets let out about 10 or 20 hours in. Then you go to a place with like 40 hours of free content.

Probaly what every FF fan expected and didn't get because 13 is trash except for a few characters.
Says you.
Edit: to add: what was "every FF fan" expecting? Actual turn combat that disappeared long before VII? A job system that pretty much disappeared for the end in VI? Character archetypes like Yuffie or Barrett or Vincent? A 2D map that's equivalent, in work-hours, to like one level of XIII? A single-player MMO like XII? A battle system that changes for every entry?
There's little tying FF together outside of the most absolutely basic stuff like an XP system, a "young" cast of characters (or at least a young lead), silly stuff like chocobos or tonberries or summons/eidolons/espers, or vaguely asian character design.

Well, do I need to strategize in combat more later on? I can deal with a linear game.
I just don't want linear and auto-attack the whole game.
You sure do. There's a certain boss you face at the very, VERY end of the linear bit, as well as a couple you face before then, that require more strategy than auto-attack with the standard paradigms (that should be your first order of business, once you're allowed to anyway--figure out what paradigms work for you).
Additionally, learning how to use the paradigm system can drastically shorten some fights.
And, finally, there are a bunch of bosses, not all of them superbosses but some are, in the wide-open area, that require a really strong knowledge of the combat system and how to manipulate the paradigms.

XV is everything that people hated about XIII. Full-on action combat. Angsty main character.
'course you're a KH fan, but any "normal" FF fan should by all rights hate XV.

Embrace the hate. FF XIII fans are the true hipsters.
That's in jest ^, but it really is funny to see all of the vitriol people spew about it (not talking about this thread in particular, just the interwebz in general).

I should have been clearer--it's FF XIII taken to the next level. People complained that XIII's combat was too actiony--now it's not turnbased at all. And really, black clothes + unattainable femme fatale + dying parent figure, that's like a recipe for angst.
I would say the fact that they "can't" like other genres is evidenced by all of the hilarious "FF lost it's way after V/VI/VII/VIII/IX/X/XII" comments that invariably show up in an FF discussio.

Nah. XIII is more like full-on auto combat. Kingdom Hearts, Grand Theft Auto, Batman Arkham, or Devil May Cry is full-on action.Mr.House wrote...
