It didn't matter anymore. You needed a Reaper IFF to get through the Omega 4 relay, and now we know that it is simply software code, and not a hardware device because Cerberus recovered everything. The Normandy had a Reaper IFF, and the Alliance could easily give the Reaper IFF software to every fleet in the galaxy, thus making the shutting down the relay network to all but those with a reaper IFF useless.

The Network was shut down at the end of the game for game mechanics purposes so that you'd have to fight the Battle For Earth. It is like that "Once you choose to proceed, you may not complete any more quests in Zion" in that DLC for Fallout NV.

If they completely shut down all the relays except for the system they were attacking it would have mattered.

Doesn't necessarily follow that it isn't hardware-based. Cerberus could have reverse-engineered the captured IFF. I presume the thing would have been examined.

ME having a few plot holes is no reason to make up your own.

If Cerberus made EVA, how many other Cerberus AI beings you think are out there?

So about the IFF

It's possible that Eva was the only other Cerberus-derived AI out there, leaving EDI as the last once she's purged from the platform. In any case, once the Cerberus base is dealt with, it's doubtful that there's any others left at that point.

Oh man that is awesome. I knew about the friendly intelligence requirement of the IFF from the codex, but I never heard this before. EDI's use of the reaper voice was pretty great.

I still can't figure out what the trigger for that conversation is.

Come on. Work with me here. I'm not. I'm filling in some. I mean with that encryption key thing EDI talks about. That wasn't foreshadowed anywhere. What an ass pull! And thus it allows the Normandy to stay in front of Harbinger and for EDI to troll Harby while Shepard says that romantic, "Goodbye." Harby thinks the Normandy is a real genuine Reaper!

Even in that situation Harbinger would still know it was EDI because no Reaper would be providing support to Shepard. Also ladar. Harbinger was just being a derp again.

No. Harbinger can't be a derp. Wasn't using ladar. No need. Got the proper IFF signal. The Reaper was helping the organics ascend. They were entering the reaper. They were indoctrinated. Harby said, "okay."

Some people get angry. Some people argue. The story is ... well ... there are holes and lots of them.

To trigger that conversation Mordin has to have died on the Suicide Mission, if Mordin is alive EDI tells you about the Transhumanisim discussion she had with him instead of having this conversation with Adams.

I've had that conversation with EDI and had a living Mordin.

I've said before that people are willing to let things slide if the game provides in other ways. Not necessarily a good thing on the storytelling front, but if you dazzle people enough with entertaining bits and give them some kind of cathartic conclusion, they're likely to forgive quite a lot of flaws, of which there are quite a few in ME2. If ME3 had a climactic conclusion, there would no doubt still be tons of criticism, but I'm willing to bet that the fan rage we've all no doubt read about would be nigh nonexistent.

"If ME3's ending had been a climactic conclusion" Pfff, as if that's why we don't like it.

To be fair, the krogan pretty much came off as orcs in general anyway. I mean listen to the sounds they make in ME1, with that creepy sounding "Watch out!"

Hence, why Krogan and Vorcha plus a pair of Asari were perfect for my LOTR Spoof.

EVA was a VI made to replace EDI, because Cerberus could not trust another AI remain loyal to Cerberus.

A cathartic one maybe. Crap that still gives a player something they want isn't going to be as unpopular as crap that doesn't - that just leaves you with nothing at all.

Why is Shepard leaving when there is no reason for Shepard to leave the ship? Better yet, why is she bringing EVERYONE with her, leaving the ship unprotected Where did they go? Omega to get Grunt some lap dances? There was no reason for Shepard to leave.

They were installing some dangerous tech into the ship's systems, so getting the non-essentials off the ship is a damn good idea.

It's the best I can guess, but I'm at least not passing it off as nonsensical without offering some idea of how it could work. Still, that idea don't explain Chakwas and Chambers. And don't forget that characters don't have your 'foresight' (player knowledge), so they could have thought some systems going boom being the worst case.

Oh there's tons of reasons why some people don't like the game. Some may have given up all their possessions and moved to a Tibetan monastery as a result of how heartbroken they were, but that's not the point. If the game had a big action-y conclusion with a positive ending (and possibly working in the choices to a reasonable degree), the rage over the ending would not likely be as apparent as it was. I gather that it makes no real difference around here, where discriminating tastes bear all the colors of the bitter rainbow, because it would still be "stupid" or the ever overused "contrived", but that doesn't really matter.
