There is a Wooden Elven Interior tileset on the new Vault--not sure whether that is quite what you want. Judging by the screenies, it could use a few more tree trunk pass-through openings. But it looks fairly decent.

I experimented a bit with the dormer windows.  First, I fixed the regular ones to line them up better with each storey of the building.  Here you can see this in two versions,

One row:

Two rows:

Then I tried a different type, with the structure of a single dormer extending over two storeys and incorporating a window at each level:

Finally, I added some skylights at the top.  These skylights could just as easily be added above one or two layers of dormer windows.  If added above one layer, then they'd obviously be positioned one storey further down.

Please let me know which approach you think is best.   :)  Of course, I could always make a second variation of this building, with a different dormer style, and maybe with a plainer architectural style at the back of the building, where the platform gap is...

Those tall dormers look really great. Definitely use those!

For the skylights I was thinking really long strips would look cool. Not feeling the smaller ones with those tall dormers. I think the tall dormers look best on their own.

They all look pretty nice. The taller dormer windows might fit the style a little better if the peak flared up a bit to match the main roof. Another variant would be a tall dormer window surrounded by a shorter dormer window on either side--that could provide artistic balance, I think. (Not sure though, it might look a little rude too.) A cupola tower on one side may look nice as well.

Mmm... I can't say I'm that fond of the sky lights; at present they look a little bit like prison windows. Maybe if they were circular or oval? *shrug*

Thank you!  I'm glad you like the tall ones.  I do too.  :)  If I add skylights to anything, I'll experiment a bit more with shapes...  The thing is, I really didn't know what other shapes to use.  Where I live, skylights kinda have a universal, boring shape, like what I made here.  :D  Do you have any pictures you could show me to illustrate what you mean by long strips of skylights?  Thanks.

Hah, I'm really not fond of the skylights either.  I just thought I should try what Henesua was suggesting - but it turned out that I didn't understand her.  :)  As for the tall dormers, I'll see what I can do to make their shape match the rest of the building a bit better.  Not sure about a cupola tower.  This building is already tall enough that adding extra height might be a waste.

Yep, that one was also added into the CEP a few years ago. while -different- I've never felt it was truly -elfy-. There's several other -Elven Interiors- folks have done over the years, but they're all just retextures of the Bioware Drow Dungeon or Castle Interior and again fall short, at least in my mind.

As for the recent pics posted, I too love the tall dormers. Nice work.

Another vote here for the tall dormers, but not a fan of the skylight concept - unless they were like the upper round window section in the tall dormer.

Really appreciate your efforts and just love this set!

I should probably clarify that I didn't really mean it should protrude above the top--it was more of a thought about a side tower with a cupola at the top. But it was just a stray random thought anyway. :)

Use the tall dormers. If you don't like the skylight shape, have you thought about using a hexagonal or octagonal shaped skylight - kind of like Oseryn suggested. The more complex geometry would definitely look better with the tall dormers, is more interesting than a rectangle or square, and would fit in well visually with the window at the top of the tall dormer.

Hmmmm... Is this just coincidence? I just saw this house on the tv and thought it might be inspirational. Anyway here are three articles (with photos) on it.

Uncluttered view.

Daily Mail (UK paper with Mr. Angry attitude) Detailed views.

Daily Mail Locals attitude towards house.

@Estelindis It makes that elven house look positively tame  :) .

Gosh, Tarot, I shudder to think how my elven house looks if that "prize-winning" design seems like an inspiration for it!  How horrid!  :D

Actually, since "Gingerbread" and "Elvish" are diametrically apposed, there is no comparison.

The Gingerbread is very gaudy and interesting I guess, as in the old Oriental Curse "May you live in interesting times..." but definitely not something I would expect to find in a D&D environment.

No worries for Estelindis, I seriously doubt anyone would consider the Gingerbread as an inspiration for the works you have generated.  Your tileset is reserved and elegant, as well as beautiful.  All aspects attributed to high elves so to speak.

However, for someone to actually build a "Gingerbread" style house is a bit of a shock.  I mean, can you imagine being a person looking to find a new home for your family and being taken to that house by your Real Estate agent?

In today’s society, “prize winning” is too often used as an award for something that pushes the envelope—and nothing more.  Beauty, style, elegance, thought provoking, artfully meaningful, of lasting quality, and truly innovative are superlatives that have been cast by the wayside in favor of the edgy schlock that fills our modern version of so-called entertainment.  In the television and movie realm, most of it is foisted on us by talentless writers, directors, and producers selling their steaming piles of award winning “edgy” crap.

Oops…did that turn into a mini rant?

As Bannor said, your work has both beauty and elegance, and it has been a delight to watch as you've crafted it.

Do you happen to have any updates since January?

I noticed some mini map textures are missing, for example.

Not meaning to rush you at all!

We are going to have this as a separate hak, but still a month or two away from going live with our Big Update and like I said before, I'll keep watching to see if there is a new download!

Here are some new images of the dormer windows, incorporating suggestions from the fine folks of this thread!  :)  Unless anyone has serious problems or criticisms, I will probably keep this version.

Yes, I have updated since January.  If you check back a few pages, you can see with what.  I know that there are plenty of minimap images missing.  I was planning on doing them all in a batch when the tileset is feature-complete.

Would you mind a couple other suggestions?

The very large dormers are interesting, but they seem to a bit too extreme to me.  They aren't really balanced with the rest of the design for the structure.  I'm thinking from functionality and well as a stylistic standpoint.  First functionality—how would the top row of windows illuminate anything?  The dormers are so narrow and stick out so far from the roof that they would appear as great dark gashes in the roof from the inside save from when the sun is positioned at a very specific point in the sky.  From the outside, they appear as a stylistic addition without function, and fairly eyebrow rising at that.

I’ve two suggestions you may wish to kick around.  The first, if you really want to have that front roof profile—and it does look good IMO—combine the three dormers into a unified roof extension.  Though seeing an interior tileset with this roof is probably unlikely, it adds the—at least illusion of—interior functionality.  It would give you a chance to do some really interesting window as well.

Second suggestion is to go with two smaller dormers similar to what you’ve already shown.  They could be a little larger than your original two dormers, but not sticking out so far that they push the realm of believable usefulness.  I’m thinking along the lines of the elves combining graceful and beautiful architecture into something highly elegant, functional, and balanced thoughout the structure.
