I know that one of the podcasts
mentioned that we'll probably get a melee mage type but I just don't
remember exactly which one atm, it was either behind the scenes, art and
design, storytelling or tactical combat one.

Though I do
remember the context of the conversation which was that someone asked
them can I beat up enemies with a sword or greatsword like a paldin type
and one of the devs said probably. It was probably said somewhere else
to.

The podcast would be here: http://biowarebase.n...ppropriate.com/

Now, finding out which one of them it is would potentially take several hours, but if you haven't listened to them before, they're all worth your time. Someone else might know more specifically which one it is.

ah, thanks guys!  I could have sworn, though, that I thought I heard they said a paladin type character was not likely..........

I'll have to listen to those podcasts.

If you wanna use a certain weapon just choose that class it doesnt really change anything about the game, just combat and stuff.

how often do you change weapons anyway.

I switch weapons nearly every encounter in Origins, especially when switching from melee to ranged. It was facilitated by the fact that you could have two different weapon sets equipped at any given time.

Rogues  have daggers and a bow(and bows have a melee attack), mages do have a basic melee attack with their staffs.

Warriors are the only ones without Any ranged attack,  Maybe you can go all Captain America with your shield.

What? You are aware that Warriors could use bows, right?

Not in DA2, they couldn't. That's when the class restrictions came in.

The only restriction I want to see is making staffs mage exclusive.

Everything else just doesnt make any sense.

I dont expect all builds/combinations to be equally efficient, but that shouldnt be a reason to just forbid players from using them.

What if I want to play a (blood)mage who fights with a ritual knife / sacrificial dagger?
Or an arcane archer.
Dual Wappons and Bows are make sense for both warriors and rogues. etc etc

Mages do have that on them; they just don't use it in fights.

I would like to see staffs usable as polearms by Warriors and Rogues (a lot of DA2 staffs were just straight up spears), but I suppose that would be a lot of effort for relatively little payoff.

Yes, but I was clearly talking about Origins. Misunderstanding, I guess.

Anyway, there just isn't any good reason why a Rogue can't use a sword or a Warrior use a bow.

Sure but there isnt any restrictions in Origins, so thats why i didnt have to point out what game I was talking about.

If they had a unique fight style I wouldnt mind rogues being able to use a sword but I dont see that working.
would be cool to use like a double ended sword or something..then warriors would want those
Two types of weapons seem like enough for a class though, what else could be a Ranged warrior weapon?
Or just a skill cause Mages are primarily ranged, Warriors are melee and Rogues can be either.

I really want duel wielding for warriors.

I have a Warden who uses sword and shield and a Hawke who uses great-swords. Both were Reavers as well. I want my Inquisitor to be a Reaver too but it feels off that he has to crib the same weapon style as my last two characters.

Possibly different attacks?

In which case I point towards Dragon's Dogma:

Fighters, assassins and mystic knights can use swords although fighters are the most proficent with them. Assassins however were much more nimble with the sword lacking the strength based attacks of the fighter. The assassin's abilities with the sword consisted of powerful counter attacks. The mystic knight was the least proficient with the sword due to their dabbling in magic which made up for their lack of expertise with the sword. The mystic knight's attacks consisted of lower-tier fighter abilities and abilities combining magic and melee attacks.

Each of these classes felt different also due to the fact that they otherwise had different weapons. Assassins could also use daggers, shields and bows. Mystic Knights could also use maces/hammers/staffs and magick shields. Fighters were limited to swords and shields but were much more proficient with them and could be made into DPS dealers or tanks.

I meant fighting style..but I think fight style would mean the same thing. They shouldnt be the same as any class cause it wouldnt even matter what class you picked then.

Aside from bows...Any cool idea? chakrams?..boomerang?
They already have that harpoon move to get enemies that are further away, is that a good enough substitute for ranged?
would work for any ranged enemy to get them close to you as long as they arnt on an ledge or flying.
