i love femshep and i dont think i could every play mass effect with a male shep.. it feels wrong... plastic..not real.. and just not right.... its like playing halo without master chief and instead playing halo using gordan freeman from half life lol

Anyways when i first played mass effect (the first one) i created my Femshep... and i used her in mass effect 1.... and i just completed mass effect 2 with her... now to bring her into mass effect 3 :D

soo cant wait to play the game with her i love how you can use your character and you dont have to make a brand new one

heres my Femshep i created from scratch used her since No 1 hope you like her like i do :)

(sorry the color and it is a lil dark i had to put in window mode as no ingame screenshot button so it makes it look darker and weird color it looks far better in fullscreen)

Sorry, just me being condescending. It's good you like Femshep but how does Maleshep feel 'plastic' or 'wrong'

It's da voice. It's not bad-acting or anything, but imo Mark's voice just doesn't fit, lol

Ah, the femshep vs mshep wars. Good times. What I find interesting in the debates I have seen has been the agreement between the mshep fans and detractors. Both agree the Mark Meer has a emotionless delivery. The fans think that is appropriate and prefer it, while the detractors find it wooden and robotic. The same goes for femshep: fans like the emotional inflection, detractors find it to be over the top and inappropriate for the role.

Mark Meer does get better though. But, damn, what in the world did they do with Sheploo's face animations? Gack! I don't think I could play a Sheploo again after watching his bizarre expressions during the Miranda romance. Besides, I like a clean shaven Shepard. No five o'clock shadow for me.

Are you going to romance Traynor?

I don't think either voice is better than the other, they both seem to serve their purpose well enough although for Femshep's voice I wouldn't consider a constant angry whisper emotional inflection.

MShep's VA is greatly improved in 3, but it takes me a long time to get there since it involves slogging through 2 whole games for a trilogy run.

It's just a subjective thing.

For me...there is only one Commander Shepard...and that's my Shepard. My ME1-ME3 playthrough is my Shepard's story.

My Shepard is male...so I could never play through the game with a female Shepard...or even a different looking male shepard for that matter.

It's not "wrong" for anyone else...just for me.

After a while, you do become more familiar with the character so it can be hard to accept anything else, especially if the PC was customized to your liking.

That said, this is something I've always considered a bit problematic with the prospect of a movie. No matter what they do, it just won't feel like the Shepard we're familiar with.

I am a fan of making custom male shepards, I take pride that I avoid the big jaw syndrome or cro-mag brow many have. I have played as femshep a few times and although I do enjoy it, it is not my preferred way to play. Anyway, your femshep looks good. I think a big thing I see with custom femsheps that I dislike is the lips. Some go way too high on the mouth depth bar. I think I have harder time making her than a male actually. Usually in ME1 I just modify the first custom face presented to you, then in ME3 I can tweak it since the settings for face creation changed.

Male shep sounded like a chump and I'm never playing a male shep again. Femshep is where it's at. She sounds like a bad ass solider. Male shep just sounds too friendly. Femshep sounds more serious. Sometimes she sounds too bad ass though like evil almost

I agree completely , the male Shepard sounds very generic and is usually under the standard. It's like his voice acting comes out of a plastic Ken doll with no real feelings. While playing the game as Male Shep i didn't feel immersed in the story. More like , forced to take in lines of dialogue without actually feeling the story or the massive plot going on.

Example :

"Oh noo , Oh .. the reapers will come Oh , but Ooh.. Oh well , we need to get together."

I mean seriously .. this isn't a new dispute by any chance , everyone in here knows Femshep's voice acting sounds far more convincing and intriguing than Maleshep's. They might as well cast Vin Diesel as Maleshep , at least that would be far more convincing LeL

Femshep just sounds like she smokes. Still a good voice actress tho. I played her once all the way through in the trilogy. Been playing male ever since.

@Zuzu Mumu

Where is your avatar from? I don't recognize that scene at all. Is it from a trailer?

Uh, yes, yes this is a dispute. I think Femshep sounds terrible. I cannot take any attempt at command seriously from her. She sounds bored and dull to me.

I agree that both have their merits. Meer sounds more like a soldier who is emotionally detached from what happens around him, which is fine and suits the character well. It's just not what I want to listen to fo 60 h or more. Hale actually gives Shepard some emotions and a sense of being involved, which makes femshep more interesting to play, at least for me.

I some occasions, admittedly, I prefer Meer's performance, like the renegade control ending.

Mark Meer approached Shepard as an avatar, making the performance more consistent, that no matter which choice you choose, you would get a very consistent tone. The down side was that it can sound a little generic at times. In ME3 he was able to do a more emotive Shepard and many parts of his performance were great.

By contrast Jennifer Hale added emotions to Shepard from ME1 on making Shepard seem more like a character. IMHO, this made femshep a better Shepard. I cared about her and was invested more in her story yet she was still "my" Shepard, not some predefined PC. The down side was that her performance was not as consistent as Meer's and Hale had a tendency to go a bit over the top with the renegade lines.

Even though I preferred femshep, that doesn't mean Meer was bad. In what he set out to do, he did a magnificent job. Also, the minor characters he did were crazy incredible.

Male Shepard comes off as a genuine and experienced military officer. Female Shepard comes off as a dramatic interpretation of a military officer. Take your pick. Both are valid.

Interesting.
I was about to say that male shepards comes off as someone who tries reallly really hard at sounding as an experienced military officer (a commendable effort, I'll give you that), while female shepard sounds simply like a military officer.

I'm of the opposite opinion. To me, it sounds like Female Shepard is trying incredibly hard to sound dramatic. Male Shepard is calmer and his voice more controlled, which is indicative of a miltiary background. He just sounds like a trained and experienced officer to me. To some people, Meer's take on the character is more "generic" and/or "boring", but his acting suits the character far better. In my opinion, naturally.

Both takes on the character are valid. I think it just depends on what you're looking for and what you like.

I love my femShep too, two of 'em. I really like Meer's acting and voice. I find her acting quite natural and normal (from Finnish point of view). But sadly... Custom Shep is custom Shep and I just can't make custom male Shep that I can stand watching.

FemShep sounds like a bad soap opera character.

Hale does fine fine in other games though.

Meer does some great comedy, that's for sure. I love Niftu Cal.
