How about a Movie that takes place in the Mass Effect Universe but doesn't follow the Shepard Arc nor has anything to do with the plots of the Trilogy?

I think we can all agree that this is femshep

What? Don't tell me you expect any other voice.

If you're just talking video games then yes Jennifer Hale is the ONLY FemShep. I could easily see many actresses playing the part in the movie.

Come on, it's obvious. The oppression is suffocating me, tbh. Males get all the good roles.

Yes, let's make what only 18% of the fanbase played as the lead.

Femshep fan entitlement and delusion never ceases to amaze.

Six years of relative peace amongst the fans because everyone could create a Shepard of whatever gender or ethnicity they pleased and it didn't have any effect on anyone else's games and one stupid movie manages to ruin everything.

The film needs to forget about Shep, too many variables.

The very idea of using Shepard for the movie is awful in my opinion.
No one is going to like it. All the people that had a costum shep and had a female one isn't going to be able to take the film seriously. And even those that had Sheploo, it is very unlikely people will be satisfied with the choice.
Actually, the very idea of doing a movie based on a mulitple choice game is from the start doomed to fail.
It seems obvious to me the movie is targeted to people that are unknown to the franchise or didn't play the games yet.

I agree. A big part of the appeal of this franchise thus far has been that you can make it feel a bit more personal in the choices of actions, appearance, dialogue and even love interest(s). This movie will not be for the long-time fans of the series, because there's no good way to cater to them anyway. I suppose I'll just wait and see and try to be as fair as I can to it if and when it's released, but I'm not going to be terribly optimistic about it.

i only play femsheps, but for mass appeal it'll be a male shepard for film. Ultimately, I'd go see the movie regardless of gender unless the reviews made it impossible to be seen entering the theater.

Thankfully the film won't be out for a good while yet, so the forum won't be totally insufferable in its wake. Provided that the major plot points of the story remain, no doubt there will be some heated arguments over things that happen, like Shepard's choice on Virmire, for example. I'm willing to bet Ashley will survive this and even be a love interest, and that's if Liara doesn't take this position beforehand.

If you haven't played femshep with a different skin-tone, try it! Race isn't really specific in the game, but it's fun to have diversity in multiple created characters.

Note: My original Shepard was caucasian. My second was black. Over-time I've played all races. I spend a lot of time in the create-a-shepard screens... not to mention the editor -> tweaking.

I'd rather no movie at all. It'll be another white dude as the hero/lead. That formula is way overused.

Bioware should stick to making video games that allow choice and customization.

My primary Shepard looks more hispanic. But yeah, even though it basically just boils down to appearance in the game, it is fun to have a variety of different looks like this.

The majority of playthroughs were undertaken with male Shepards, whether you like it or not. Therefore, to most people, Shepard is a male character.

Theatrical Shepard will be male.

Count as one of the people who think doing a movie with Shepard is just a terrible idea that would only alienate fans. I mean, I play as a female Shepard and, even though I would watch a movie with the character as male it just would not feel right. A movie about the first contact war with David Anderson or a original character would be cool. What better way to introduce the series to movie goers than showing when humans first met the Turian's and other council races?

Clearly there's only one option.

Make it full CGI and record the exact same parts with both a male and female actor/actress. Release one in theaters worldwide with limited showings of the "less popular" gender in key locations to show fan support, then release both versions in a special edition blu-ray combo pack that costs way too much.

It's perfect.

A movie with non-conditional events from the ME history would be so much better. First contact, for example. Shepard would just be out of place in anything that's not a player character in the games.

The assumption that 90% plays FemShep says something... and that something is not based on stastitics, be it here or the netire playerbase

Actually agree with OP on this one, would be great with a female lead in a Mass Effect movie.
Just look at Sigourney Weaver and Noomi Rapace in Prometheus, it can turn out really great.

Not as great as if William Shatner did it but.. maybe he's a little old for playing Shepard?
Would love it if everyone here was supporting a massive "Shatner for Shepard" vote here
